Wonderful to watch and really seemed to like playing football, another one bites the dust.

RIP. I have a wonderful memory ( I hope it’s a memory and not just one of those distorted imagination things) — I went on the supporters trip to Miami at the end of 1980 promotion season . After seeing the lads play a game they took us to see another game- can’t remember the teams- but I “ remember “ Cruyff on left wing doing one of his turns , putting the ball into box where Muller was just inside the penalty spot - back to goal he curled a leg around , face to goal and slotted into corner. Was anyone else there that could confirm?

Sounds like that was a representative game (NASL v someone else) or a friendly. I think that happened a lot with the NASL. Cruyff didn't play any league games for the New York Cosmos (only LA Aztecs and Washington Diplomats) but I'm pretty certain he made guest appearances for the Cosmos. Which makes me think that your memory is unlikely to be letting you down.
