This is not actually true. We (the British government) gave several billion to Oxford/AstraZeneca to fund rapid development work. Ordinarily such funding would have come from the markets (shareholders). The Chancellor has been funding this (and lots of other things) from the Magic Money Tree. In return, AstraZeneca agreed to an embargo on selling the resultant vaccine above cost price for two years. So everyone who got the AstraZeneca jab got a needle in the arm for about £2 a time whilst the Pfizer/BioNTech vaccine costs around £20 a time. In 2023 when everyone that had a vaccine has died, it seems improbable that survivors will want to pay whatever AstraZeneca decide to charge. There will only be the no vaxxers, anti vaxxers and the Taliban left, so the latter will be running the planet.
