1st or second keg? If it was 1st leg then you’re picking one fault from a multitude by the team. They were all awful. Second leg we missed 3 very good chances. Which, inevitably, cost us more than burge.
It always amazes me how some people say he cost us between 15 and 18 points last season yet they can't list them. From my experience the majority of goalkeeping errors occur when the defense put the keeper under too much pressure. An old coach of mine used to say thatthe ball had to get past 10 other players before it got past the keeper.
Did t he make a very good save which effectively also gave us the points yesterday? Or does that not count?
haters gotta hate Just looked at the replay and when he rolls the ball out the defender (couldn't make out the number) turns to run onto it rather than across or towards it. Looks more to me that the defender misjudged the pace of the ball. 1:04 on this video
I agree with that totally, but it shouldn’t have been that tight, he was responsible for their goal. Gary Bennett said, post match, there was no need for the quick throw, at 2 nil all that was needed was to slow the pace down then hit them on the break, and burge did that. But what was really needed was an old head on the pitch to tell everybody to calm down and slow the game down and that was what was missing.
Just watched their goal, it may have been a poor roll by Burge, but the player (?) He passed to could have done better and even then the defending should have been better also. If you want a big glaring blunder committed by Burge, this isn't it. Imho like!
2 nil up. Keeper has ball in hand and throws it out quickly straight to the opposition. That is a mistake. A lack of awareness, concentration and game management in any game. Burge inst as bad as is being made out but also 100% not of the level required for us to achieve our goals comfortably. Nervy season ahead if he stays number 1.
I think we have the makings of a good team and I expect we will be promoted this year. They say that winning when you’re not playing well is a sign of a good team and I would say that’s what we’ve done so far. Two points would have been a fair return for us but we’ve got six. We have a huge potential in this squad and as soon as the new arrivals and the young ‘uns get settled in I reckon we will be unstoppable. We need a bit of time and patience and I would expect by the end of September we will be there.
Agree with most of the post and although MK Dons were better than Wigan we deffo deserved our victory last week. So 4 points minimum. Like yourself however I will gladly accept the 6
Having not been to either game, what would the verdict be of those that were there of the 2 most excellent wins, dominate or flukey? Dominant for me is lots of chances created, lots of possession and of course at least 3 goals scored and a clean sheet. The opposition does not score, and not much possession. Flukey is when you create only a few chances but score from them, the opposition dominate possession, create lots of chances but fail to convert. In other words riding your luck... which cannot last forever. Also obviously there are lots of 'shades' in between these two opposites. Also obviously a side that dominants the opposition is more likely in a long season to get promoted. I reckon we can become that side, but we are not at that pinnacle yet, that is what I can glean from the stats. Right or wrong from those that were there. Just as an aside, 2 goals in 2 games for Stewart augers well.
A decent hard fought win. Mistakes happen but the lads dug in and ground out 3 very good points. MK will beat more teams than they lose to at home and they aren’t a bad side. Big physical side and good passers of the ball. Great to catch up with friends and a cracking turnout from safc again. Hope everyone is back home safe and well. Looking forward to Tuesday for another very tricky game.
None of them are mate, not even Doyle who lost the ball trying to carry the ball out of defence and put us in danger. Cirkin had the ball taken off him, in the first half, and their full back ran past him with it. Few of these games will be comfortable, we just all have to pull together.
Like LJ said, let’s see where we are after 10 games. We will have more new players and they should all be bedded in. We’ve done just enough to win the first two league games, but not really convincingly. If we’re up there after ten games, which I think we will be, then happy days.
