Last season will become our own worst enemy. We performed above a level we all thought capable and we finished higher than we’d have imagined possible so this season the momentum from last leaves you thinking “anything” is possible.

It might have also had Bielsa falsely feeling we didn’t need to strengthen. This season really is about avoiding relegation and I guess that just sounds too boring

first game back and all that but that was horrific.
Fernandez schooled Koch. Struijk looked yards behind the game.
Klich had my doubts last season. ok its only one game but needs so much time on the ball and hasn't got the legs anymore for me
I could go on but I really don't want to rip into the team can't judge anything on one game.
Were Scum that good to beat us 5-1? emmm I'd say they played well but the amount of space and time we gave to their forward line was really worrying.
this was our worst performance since emm Scum away.
We have to bounce straight back. a season isn't lost in 1 game but that's nowhere near the standard needed or we are used too.

We were krap and made it easy for them. Total cock up by bielsa with his square peg approach to team selection.

The first goal is 40 points.

We are expected to get beat at old Trafford especially when they turn up like that. That is a throwaway game.

We have Everton at home followed by Burnley away next (with Crewe in the Cup sandwiched in-between). Bare minimum of 3 points needed from the next league games. Hopefully we can pick up 6 points.

i don’t disagree, but when that happens you either stick with your man or close down the Carrier you don’t do neither. The first goal was all his own work. For an international defender, I’m yet to see any defensive attributes to his game. Good on the ball in the games he doesn't have to defend!

Anyway, first game of the season, and I’m i probably knee-jerking with the disappointment… hope he plays great if picked again and demonstrates how little i know (if that ever really needs a demonstration!)

Only positive I can take from this match is that any possible signings we are pursuing have now become probables, if not definites.

Unfair chart. Bielsa's £8m is for his backroom team, not just him. The other clubs pay the other managers' backroom staff.

Btw, are these figures netto, or pre-tax? Possibly a mix, but when memes like this are constructed, accuracy is never a consideration.

Probably going to get slated for this but didn’t think we were THAT bad considering the drumming but some pretty bad individual performances.

    Here’s my take....

Meslier’s distribution is terrible and costs us, I’ve said this time and time again. Need a combo of Meslier at corners, safe hands, Kiko’s shot stopping and distribution.

Thought Ayling lost his man too but did well all around.

Doesn’t help Raphinha being in front of him who is often out of position and was lucky not to get slinged for Costa instead of Harrison as when Raphinha doesn’t produce in attack he really switches off tracking back and can try to be too clever when an easy pass is on, we can’t lose the ball on transition or we’re ****ed with how we play. If Costa or Roberts had Raphinha’s game today they’d be getting absolutely slaughtered and being chased out Leeds (Remember both Costa and Roberts started in the 0-0 at Elland Road last season). Harrison also scores his chance at the end. Did I see that he was laughing when he missed at 5-1, we're 5-1 down mate what’s funny? But I’m sure I’ll eat my words when he scores a hat-rick next week.

Rodrigo isn’t a 10 and our system doesn’t work with Klich and Rodrigo starting. Got to be Dallas and Klich or Dallas and Rodrigo for me. Klich was caught napping against scum again. Same last season with McTominay.

Thought Koch and Struijk both struggled, Koch just kept losing Fernandes when he should’ve been following him everywhere and ultimately cost us. Same as my Raphinha point, if Cooper was Koch or Struijk today people would be calling for his head. For me this shows Cooper and Llorente are first choice CB’s by a mile, Struijk is 3rd choice and should never play RCB ever again and Koch isn’t Phillips.

Right, now for some reflection and sensible thoughts. All in all you’ve got to give credit where credit is due, Pogba was unplayable today and looked like the player they paid for & the player that played for France in the Euros. Fernandes made some good runs that weren’t tracked by Koch. Not a fair showing of Koch in CDM when he’s marking one of the best attackers in the league, out of the top 3-4 teams who’s second choice CDM is going to come remotely close to Phillips, hopefully we’ll see Phillips back next week with Koch next to Cooper in CB. Would a stone heavier Phillips have done any better tracking Fernandes today, we’ll never know. Now let’s make up for it at Everton before we combust.
