I think we should leave the ownership out of the debate for now... They pretty much hold the aces, however Arteta should be doing much with the team and infrastructure at his disposal. Let's not let Arteta off the hook here!
I don't think we should. Arteta is clearly out of his depth. He shouldn't be in charge right now. The only reason he is manager currently is because the ownership have not sacked him and hired someone else. I agree he should be doing better, but the decision should have been taken out of his hands ages ago. And the fact he is STILL at the club lies firmly with the ownership. So the primary responsibility lies with them.
The owners are the owners, unless you can show me in club football history when fans have forced the owners to relinquish their football clubs, I will not waste my time going on about the Arsenal ownership and trying to effect change. However, I will repeat, with the assets and infrastructure at his disposal Arteta is pretty poor and really has to do the decent the thing. Football managers throughout history have been forced out and that is the battle we can win! I will not back this guy with any more funds if I were the Kroenkes!
I don't think fans should be pressuring to do anything, the club hierarchy should see we're not getting results and our performances are getting worse. That's the basis for change. They've not done it. The decision to sack managers lies with the ownership. If they are persisting with an underperforming manager - which they are - then the buck stops with them.
I completely disagree, the fans can effect change at an operational level (they will, trust me on that), they would put pressure on Arteta. He has gotten away thus far largely because of the pandemic, let us see how his team is received at the emirates. As for the ownership, the only way is for fans to stay away, stop buying merchandise, hurt them in their pockets (even that is a long shot).
Ben White for £50m looks a shocking decision already. At that kind of money you should be getting a genuine top drawer defender who dramatically improves your defensive unit. I was shocked when I heard the fee tbh, as I’ve never been convinced by him and whilst he won’t face a player like Toney every week, his weaknesses were amply demonstrated last night.
I'm still really confused regarding lacca and auba... They felt unwell is a really weak excuse... If my staff phone in saying they can't come into work because they felt unwell ill be asking them to come in to work... And tbh was not bothered about auba but lacca was a big miss Must be more
I'm not saying the fans can't affect change, what I'm saying is when it's as abundantly clear as this that our standards are dropping, our results are getting worse and our performances are getting worse, the owners should see a change is needed. Even from a business perspective, what they're doing makes no sense. Giving Arteta unconditional support is a very dangerous thing to do.
Agreed, it makes no sense. My contention is that Arteta should have been fired end of last season. Even, if he managed the City team, he would still conspire to throw it away. He is a poor manager period. We have to accept the owners are not going anywhere, just like the Newcastle owner, the Liverpool owner or the Manure owners, these guys were all maligned very recently, however what has changed is a change of managers..
But I agree with this, he should have been sacked months ago. The people who are responsible for hiring and firing managers have allowed him to carry on when they shouldn't have. And that's why I blame them more than Arteta. Because the owners should have fired Arteta a long while ago, yet they've done nothing and the team is going to suffer as a consequence.
It's difficult to draw a definitive conclusion like this after 1 game, but his lack of aerial ability and game intelligence looks a huge concern moving forward. Ivan Toney is a good player, but he's hardly the biggest striker ever and White was consistently losing duels against him. I can't fathom how he'll fare against Lukaku next week...
The kid can play football and looked comfortable as a wide CB in a 3 or as a full back, and I’m sure Arteta has gone for him due to his ability on the ball, but you needed a proper solid CB and he isn’t it imo. He might be forced to go to a 3 merely to accommodate him, which seems arse about face to me.
Yes, because those owners sacked their managers, yours hasn't. Arteta has been manager for 2 years, by now he should have been able to stamp himself on to the team. He has also had ample transfer windows to make a team to suit his style. The problem is, what is his style? What was Arsenals plan out there? Looked to me like 11 undisciplined players running around like headless chickens. Smith Rowe did okay, Saka when he came on. But everyone else....... This is 2 years into his stint as manager! I dont see it getting better. There's absolutely no way you are catching the top 4 anytime in the next couple of seasons. Whats it been, 5 years since you were in the Champions League? And its going to be at least another 2-3 more, probably 5 more if you keep Arteta. This is all about your owners. You aint achieving **** till they piss off imo,.
I also think it is pile of cobblers. Your 2 main strikers are unwell, what does he take us for? Clowns?? No injuries, both mysteriously "unwell"? I feel, it is either one or both of them tested posotive for covid, or Arteta is trying to prove a point!
One rumour they were removed from squad due to something on the training field, attitude or something like that.. More believable than felt unwell bullsh
Also thinking about it no one seems to be pushing this story press and pundits everyone is like unwell OK move on..
The whole 'big enough' thing is a bit just a troll. Its not even a serious conversation. In terms of size only United and Liverpool are bigger. Fanbase, Support, Facilities, Online support and History and the biggest determining factors in a Clubs 'size'. Recent poor form has not diminished the Clubs size - just made alot of people very angry.
Recent form? No league title in 15 years, no CL football for 5 years. You say Arsenal are behind only Utd and Liverpool, but based on what? Trophies won? Stadium size? You think an incoming manager gives a **** how many trophies Arsenal won in the 90's? 2 main things draw in the best managers: 1) Prestige. What level of football does the club play. Both domestically and in Europe? 2) Will he be backed financially? Will the manager be given the chance to build his own squad? At the moment, for Arsenal the answers to those questions are 1) ****e, domestically midtable with no Euro comp, and 2) Hell ****ing no. Arsenal are a huge club, reputation wise, but so are Leeds United and so are Nottingham Forest.
