Often when I read about the lives that those who live in hostels have had and are having I’m not surprised they drink themselves to death and do hard drugs.
I was brought up in a 5 bedroom house on Newland Park and my folks have being together 50 years I’ve had a piss easy life when I’ve had a hard day Hull City have lost a football match.
More to be pitied than scorned.

Rooney used to be often outside the Sainsbury’s years ago.

Totally I certainly wouldn’t swap my life for theirs.

I've lived in plenty of places where a typical months pay is only 200 to 400 Euro a month and there is no safety net of a benefit system. Get a few drunks but nowhere near the problems you see in the first world countries.

Didn’t Diana Johnson move to somewhere in London?

She used to live a few doors away from me, so it was a bit weird having her knocking on my door canvasing.

Lovely lass mind.
I assume she has a gaff in London for work, but I thought she still lived up here mainly?

I don't recall the numbers of alkies/druggies bitd.

(Non) Availability of substances.alcohol was one reason, most folk being skint was another

*UNPOPULAR OPINION KLAXON*

Some people were casualties of the rock n roll lifestyle hyped in the 90s by certain musical groups.

All very well if you have a manager and can afford rehab etc, but people lower down the social ladder just fall off it as they can't hold down a job or pay the rent .

Diana Johnson spends a lot of time in Hull. I spoke to her on Chants Ave only this week. In fact I see more of her then I do the local councillors. She answers all emails and takes an active interest in her local community. Her local office is due to move from the Avenues Centre on Park Avenue to Bransholme whilst the Avenues Centre is refurbished. She is one of if not our best local MP for a long time IMO.

Peter Levi gave Aneesa Akbar a grilling tonight.

Out of her depth.

Maybe she had two gafs or more, Den. Politians do that. But I do know she sold up years ago and I heard she moved to London.

I could easily be wrong. When she was a neighbour, I didn't even know she was an MP.

She did do some good work around here though.

Akbar is clearly out of her depth as a lot of the local councillors are when questions are asked. Diana Johnson has caused quite a stir locally by highlighting this problem which is right on Darren Hale's doorstep. The local labour party have been making excuses for Westbourne House for years although it is not the only half way house in this area, but it certainly is a problem and one the locals are at odds with. The local councillors have refused to see it as a problem and blame everything else, in fact I struggle to see what the elected councillors do in this ward. So Ms Johnson will have ruffled a few feathers with the local labour party by highlighting the problems. Which are mainly piss heads and druggies. I certainly don't feel threatened around here because 99% of these zombies are incapable of putting one foot in front of the other. Added to the problem is that the police station in Pearson Park which is the area the smack heads congregate is unmanned and if you see a copper around here it is a rarity. But they are plentiful just up the road when City are at home.

Council nodded through Akbar to challenge Johnson as labour candidate. Think Johnson is settling some scores here.

Look North says she will raise it in Parliament.

Why ffs? They will only say your party control the city it's a local problem.

As for HMOs think Johnny Foreigner has gone back home to the EU and landlords are happy to pack out the houses with local 'problem' tenants.

From what I see, there are similar problems, down Bev Rd, Spring Bank and Anlaby Road, it's just they don't have a trendy social strip or such a high concentration.

I'll take a draw tomorrow.

All areas change over time, Boulevard, Coltman Street etc. Once upon a time...
Avenues change and have been changing for years, possibly the expansion of universities in the 90's? Over extended rented accommodation for students in that area, then then collapse / morphing of Humberside University to Lincoln left a large glut of rental accommodation that then by absentee landlords to any available tenant...
Areas evolve and change, a good few years back I didn't live that far from where Westbourne is and I'm glad it wasn't there then

Yours Mr NIMBY

You are very passionate about local politics. Have you considered going for a local councillor? Seriously?

It wasn’t the ‘Council’ that ‘nodded through’ Aneesa at all.
3 of the 7 Labour Party branches voted for her.
Democracy and that (I think Labour decided anyone with over a third of the vote at that stage got a shot at the title)
Aneesa has been subjected to some horrendous racist abuse locally, but I’m not surprised Diana was still voted in at all, as Urika says she does some very good things locally, and raising local issues nationally is part of that too btw

Aneesa made some unwise comments on HRH Phil the Greek shortly after his death.
Despite her lack of tact and work experience, she has a very decent gig with the Corporation.
Liked by the comrades at the top it would appear....
