For this weekend away to Bolton, what is the consensus regarding who our goalkeeper should be? With Gordon injured, it's a straight choice between the Mig and Westwood. To start the discussion, my thoughts are that Mig was outstanding home vs. Stoke. To counter this, he can be questioned for his postioning for the scums goal and also in my opinion maybe could have done better (is this harsh?) for the Arsenal goals on Sunday (certainly the first one). Because of this, I'm coming around to the opinion that it's time for Westwood to be given a chance on Saturday. Discuss.
I feel for Mig, he came to be a number 2 and is a fantastic number 2 who will become a fantastic number 1. He then gets thrown in because of Gordons injury and is at times caught out. Give Westwood a chance but dont jump on him if he cocks up.
Yep - Think Mig has been to blame too many times this season - Although I'm just ba fan who pays money - I'm not a manager who makes millions a year so what the **** would I know!!
Does anybody actually know what Westwood's like as a goalie? Do you want him to play just because he's not Mig? Does anyone know what's happening with Craig Gordon? Have his knees fell off or something? It's a sad affair when we are knowingly going into a season with the second choice goalie as the main man, the third choice as back up and the first choice....well, who knows where he is!
Westwood was widely regarded as one of the best goalies outside the PL last year. He has also been capped by his country so comes with decent pedigree. As for Gordon, I personally think he will do well to recover from the injuries he's had. Don't think he's anywhere near a return at the mo
For me mig has made too many costly mistakes and not just this season Birmingham away and i think a few goals this season he could have done better.
For me its an easy decision.. I'm a keeper my self, and very good...the only thing that lets me down is I'm only 5ft 9 so I wasn't given a chance higher than Sunday League.. Anyway I know alot about keepers, and for me Mignolet isn't even a good 2nd choice keeper. Here are my reasons: 1st reason is he can't command his box and flaps a lot 2nd reason he is too stiff diving and has no flexibility 3rd reason his positioning is dodgy... IMO he should of saved van persies free kick. watch it again wasn't even top corner. With Westwood (who I have followed), he reminds me of Gordon. He is amazing at shot stopping, has flexibilty and you can think HOW THE F**K did he save that. HOWEVER he isn't brilliant at commanding his box. BUT he is better than Mignolet. See this amazing save by Westwood below: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=L4xnpjsUqCI I can guarantee you that Mignolet WOULD of not saved that.
I agree entirely AJ, your only negative about Westwood's command of the box ........... is actually a thorn in the side of ALL our present keepers !! Mig, I am sure, WILL only get better and is one for the future, BUT For me, Westwood gets the next 5 games to show what he's got.
Bardo's back this week, brucie might try him in goal yet. Would rather have an injured Gordon in goal than a fit mig
I reckon so, theres nothing wrong with my shop stopping, and I put my self out there, hence my massive bruise on my knee atm. Only problem is corners, its hard collecting the ball when there is a 6ft 2+ guy challenging with you. Its a shame because when I was younger wasn't so bad, got trails with Sunderland Boys, but as the ages got on I stopped growing and others round me grew :/
