    According to the Telegraph today:

    http://www.telegraph.co.uk/sport/fo...aiga-when-January-transfer-window-opens.html?

    According to the Daily Mail:

    http://www.dailymail.co.uk/sport/fo...ga-closes-Newcastle-switch.html#ixzz1b7rnPmps

Seems like there have been some recent developments as both stories have been posted in the last half an hour. Thoughts?

I think he looks better than average, enough to at least be strong support to Ba and Best and could be more but otherwise agree, I have faith in Carr's judgement and if he can see something special in the lad then go for it.

Be good backup/competition for Ba. I think thats the level of strikers we're looking at at the minute, if we finish in a European place then we may be able to attract better players next year but for now players like Ba and Maiga are the best we're gonna get and I'm pretty happy with that.

i dont think hes better than Ba. Maiga just doesnt seem like the right option for me, ive always felt a little disappointed from the moment we was linked to him.

I'm not going to pretend I know whether he's any good but he's made a flying start this season and I trust Carr.

  9. If we buy Maiga, i hope we buy another one in summer, I'd like to think we could attract better strikers than Maiga.

Maiga could develop into a world class striker.

What are his goals/game ratio this season? I heard it was something like 6 goals in 4 games so far!

Those 'developments' will be that L'Equipe posted the story today, at around 8:30AM.

    http://www.lequipe.fr/Football/breves2011/20111018_083348_maiga-a-newcastle-en-janvier.html

    Google translated then cleaned up.

Seems a bit foolish if he's the only one we're bringing in - As with Ba, he'll be away in Africa for January.

I know Ameobi played well against Spurs, but I still don't believe he can really replace Ba for the games he'll be missing.

19 goals in 41 appearances for Sochaux, plays as striker/winger, probably a direct replacement for Lovenkrands.

Looking forward to him if this is correct.

Hope he can get a partnership with Ba like he did Ideye Brown (15 goals each I think it was).

HMT - How many times have you watched Maiga, to come to the "hes average" conclusion?
