It's too bad he wasn't what we're looking for. I thought he looked a decent player. And at £5m the price would have been right.
He seems to be going to Wolves and I can see why he'd choose them. We seem to have overspent our £30m budget already and yet the Pinkun keeps talking about another CB, CM and FB, though the latter could be a loan for Williams.
The second loan spot should go to someone who would likely be a starter. Unless Max leaves Williams would be on the bench.
Good for him - I get tired of these delays for 'stage managing' new signings. Just put an official announcement on the club site and do all of the video interviews later.
Just had a deeper look into this (I have had a minor stomach operation and cannot sleep…) His scoring record as a striker isn’t quite as bad as the one in five looks - in the Bundesliga he was actually approximately one in four, when playing as a striker (he played 500 odd minutes as a winger or attacking midfielder). That equates to 9-10 goals if you translate it to a Premier League season, which I think we would all feel is extremely good for a relegated side. Of course, achieving that in the Premier League may be a different ask to the Bundesliga, but as he was in a lower table side there too, I don’t think it’s too bad. And when you factor in that he was 20/21 years old, that’s really very good for a young guy. It’s no surprise then that he’s got two in two in the Bundesliga.2 He’s also got 70 games under his belt in the Bundesliga aged 21 - that’s serious experience for someone so young. One of the appeals of Aarons is he’s immensely experienced for someone so young - I think the same applies here. Let’s not forget, Pukki was generally a 1 in 4 forward until his Brondby time, and never really cut it anywhere - he only became a 1 in 2 striker with us. Finally, I think that there might be a psychological factor for players like Cantwell and Placheta - he’s not just backup to Pukki, he’s a serious option on the wing and seems to work like a dog, so he’ll put the pressure on them too. Finally, he’s tall. He might not offer Pukki’s finishing or experience and brilliant running lines, but he will add bulk and height to the squad. Pukki’s not that small and he’s actually OK at holding up the ball for his height, because his touch is so good, but my suspicions are that Sargent will add a bit more there too. So of course it might not work out and it might be a waste of money, but I’m really very positive about this signing. More so than Rashica, to be honest, who on paper looks like a bargain but to me also looks higher risk - I feel like he could be amazing or he could be another flop. But this transfer business is anyone’s guess, pot luck plays as big a part as coaching, settling and match time.
Excellent Rob. We also need to remember that Teemu dropped from 29 goals in the Championship to 11 in the PL. As I recall, his goalscoring record for the USA is around 1 in 3. The huge bonus for me is his defensive tenacity when the ball is lost That's rare in a striker.
Teemu has his moments and he presses well. Always inspiring to see him track back as well. Idah is also adding that to his game as well, and Jerome was a master of it.

No flies on Transfermarkt, as they've already switched his club: https://www.transfermarkt.co.uk/christos-tzolis/profil/spieler/451677#/
Armstrong signs for Southampton for £15m which looks like it could be a bargain, I'm guessing his wages would be way out of our top price though . I hope our new players do well but perhaps paying the asking price for Ajer and Armstrong would have been less of a risk ?
I'm not convinced that Armstrong and Ajer will be anything like as effective in the PL. Armstrong could be another Dean Ashton or struggle at the higher level. Rashica, Sargent and Tzolis have all played at the top level and for their countries as well. The step up should be less steep, but we're about to find out.
Still concerned about the lack of a replacement for Skipp and Tettey back up striker for Pukki and a quality centre back . That's assuming Tod and Max stay . If heaven forbid one or both Hanley and Gibson suffer setbacks then we are in trouble at centre back. I was crying out for a centre back to be bought last time we went up and we had Zimmermann Klose and Hanley missing for most of the season , since then we sold Godfrey . Splurging on young attacking talent is exciting but we are leaving ourselves exposed in defensive areas . Still time to address this though possibly with a loan option .
I think we're all concerned about getting Skipp back or another DM and the need for another CB now that 3 at the back seems to be an option. We're said to be looking for both a DM and CB so let's hope we can manage both plus another FB option. I'm ok with Sargent and Idah as 2&3 strikers though. Rashica and Tzolis can also both play as a striker though and have, IMO, filled the hole left by Buendia. Given that Sargent can also play as an AM, we have a strong attack again, with Hernandez and Placheta available as well.
