Wolfy, what's to say it's ongoing? The voices in your head?

So you think one left back is enough?

Think it was @Nads who said he’d averaged over 20 games a season. Considering he hardly played last season, he’s only really had one “big” injury. (I thought the same as you until I looked deeper into it)

I’d like him to stay. Think he’s a very good player. Also never think like some about getting rid of a player because of injuries. Players get injured. Most don’t want to be injured. It annoys the hell out of me when fans seemingly “blame” players for getting injured. (Rodwell is an exception btw).

  4. I'm sure I read an interview somewhere a while ago saying that the problem with Denver is that the "big" injury has never been properly fixed and, because of this, has led to other injuries, more minor, but injuries nevertheless. It could be that his prolonged absence is down to the main injury finally getting fixed. I hope so for his sake and ours, can't see anyone else signing him until they know he's healthy.

Isnt he out for the foreseeable this season aswell though? If thats the case he'll need to add another 3-4 weeks on that to get back to match fitness and make some appearances for the U23s etc before he can finally come into contention again.
He came back last season from his long-term injury and now he's out again, so is this going to be an ongoing issue?
I know neither of us can answer those questions but if i was handing him a new contract it would certainly make me think twice.
He only broke into our first team a couple of years ago. Hes at an age now where he needs to be playing regularly to further his development. That has now been severely hindered because he's already lost nearly a full year of game time. All this needs to be considered when handing out his contract, so if i was Dreyfus id be giving him an offer with a much less wage than what he would have potentially got if he was fully fit and raring to go. I think this has obviously been the case and Humes not happy about it and he's holding out for a bigger pay package, hence my frustration and thinking he should consider himself lucky.

If we'd offered him a lesser package he was free to walk with no compensation to the club, which in turn would have made him more attractive to potential suitors, injury notwithstanding. The club have acted correctly throughout and we'll just have to see what the outcome is. We may now have offered him a different package since 07/08 has passed, and he may be weighing that up.

So its all down to Hume and his agent with what happens next. Be interesting to see if any other club come in for him with the injuries he's had lately

Time to **** him off. It's clear we are only keeping him around to ensure he gets fit and we get compensation. No idea where the deluded ****er thinks he's off to - be amazed if anyone about L1 level were interested

Totally agree, we're still spending money on him with his medical bills so I hope the compensation reflects that. I'm not bothered if he signs or not as I think we've a better player taking his place, he should take a hard look at what sunderland has done for him since he first joined us

Hume has always looked decent to me, accept he isn’t the best on the defensive side of his game. I’ve got no idea at this stage whether Cirkin is a better player, hopefully so.
Maybe Hume could be cover further up the field on the left too, as well as a FB.

wonder if he has watched geads and onien 'ask and get' and has wanted some silly demands included?

he needs to realise he has only his time with this club and is currently injured with no apparent time frame for when he will be fit, meaning his CV currently has something akin to 'played for SAFC as defender/wing back, recently had a lot of time off for injuries, still not 100% there will be no more recurring problems'...now, not wanting to put the lad down but in his so far short career he has done little to attract the attention of clubs higher up the leagues, he may have grabbed some attention through one or two displays against div 3 teams but i would think he is more likely to have to drop a division, possibly take a wage cut, end up at a place with far less facilities in an attempt to kick start his career.

or he sticks with the club that has had faith in him and given him first team football, that is currently helping him through his injury problems allowing him full use of the training facilities and quite possibly physio's/doctors, accept the current offer which may be a slight upgrade to his current contract but may be shorter than he wanted due to taking a bit of a risk over his injury problem (will it give more problems in the future?) basically the 'safe option', more so as there does not appear to be any real interest from any other clubs which means if he walks, he could end up on the dole and would struggle to get himself back to full match fitness.

We are talking about doing the right thing to chase compensation for him too. Which is going to put a few more clubs off signing him. He seems to think he can get better, he probably be lucky to get 100% fit and injury free for more than a few weeks.

Hope I'm wrong but it seems it's all about the money, and as you say I hardly think he'll do better in terms of that, club and facilities etc.
If that is the case then I'd rather him go. Don't need players like that.
Hopefully it's something else and it gets sorted with him signing.

Might just be Johnson putting it out there to make a stance. Once it is public we have offered all we will it can make a player commit. Probably directed at his agent anyway because I reckon he will have had a conversation with Hume before putting this out.

I certainly think he’s being badly advised now, he needs to realise his injury record is a big negative for prospective employers.

Is he worth keeping? Absolutely, as the guy definitely has ability and pace.

However, his injury record is appalling, so I can understand the club offering what they believe is a fair contract to a player who is at best, only going to play 50% of the season.

Hume training with us isnt he? I reckon Johnson is in his ear and telling him what is best for him. I reckon he will sign for a year with option to extend om both sides, or similar
