Warnock - Barton out of order

QPR boss reflects on midfielder's criticism of Taarabt

    Last Updated: October 18, 2011 7:57am

Barton questioned Taarabt's attitude following QPR's 1-1 draw with Blackburn on Saturday.

The outspoken midfielder claimed he is yet to see the Morocco international's so-called 'genius' and believes the 22-year-old needs to work harder for the collection cause.

Warnock feels Barton's criticism was unnecessarily harsh and has revealed that he will speak with the former Newcastle man in an effort to get to the bottom of the issue.

"What he is saying about Adel I think is a little bit out of order," he told ESPN's Between the Lines.

"I think there is one or two lads in the team at the moment that could do better so sometimes you look elsewhere.

    Chat

"If he wants Adel to chase about and tackle and run, he is never going to be able to do that."

Asked if it was Barton's place to make such comments, Warnock retorted: "I've not spoken to him. You're just telling me what has been said.

"I'll probably have a chat with him (on Tuesday) and see what he actually said."

Warnock has conceded in the past that Taarabt's enigmatic talent can be difficult to manage at times, but he believes the highly-rated youngster is a player capable of winning matches on his own and should be left to do what he does best.

"If you looked at what Adel is not good at, you wouldn't touch him with a barge pole," he said.

"You've got to look at what he is good at and we would not be where we are now without him, without me looking at what he is good at.

    Special

"If he wants Adel to chase about and tackle and run, he is never going to be able to do that."
Neil Warnock Quotes of the week
"Yes, he might not be able to crack in the Premier League. Even Adel doesn't know that yet. He is only a young lad. You forget he is a young kid really.

"I think he is trying very, very hard at the moment and the next few games will be interesting.

"I think when you're playing the top clubs you need that something special to win you games.

"We've missed his contribution goal-wise and hopefully, if Joey plays really well and some of the other lads play really well, the opportunities for Adel will come."

He added: "If Adel gets an opportunity and plays well he is an asset to anybody in that league.

"Yes, he has not scored in the Premier League yet, he has not set the world alight but he has had opportunities and I think [he will continue to do so]."

Just seen on SSN that Warnock feels that Barton's comments on Adel are a little out of order, but that he has only just heard of them and hasn't talked to Barton about it yet. No chance of a gracious 'no comment' or 'that's a club matter' then.
Given Barton's angelic status through support for the Hillsborough inquiry (definitely a good cause) may be harder to have a go at him this week. Keep forgetting he's a scouser not a Manc.

No prob Northy, you have the technology to post the source, which is much better. I almost exclusively use the phone app which is very handy but very fiddly for the flash stuff , especially with thumbs like mine....

It's Eric and Ernie, the Barnock and Warton show; no props, no gags but it's definitely the way they tell 'em!

With these two on stage there's very little limelight left for anyone else, such as the team, squad and club. But who cares, the show must go on!

(Still haven't figured out which one is the straight man)

The basis of Eric and Ernie (like Laurel and Hardy) was that they were both idiots......

Nice one Eamon - do you think Joey went to the barbers and asked for 'the full Stan Laurel'?

    Barton set for QPR talks

NEIL Warnock will hold talks with Joey Barton later today over the midfielder's controversial comments about team-mate Adel Taarabt.

The QPR skipper questioned the mercurial Moroccan's attitude following the 1-1 draw with Blackburn at the weekend, and says he has yet to see the 22-year-old's so-called 'genius',

And boss Warnock has slammed Barton for his outburst.

"What he is saying about Adel I think is a little bit out of order," he told ESPN's Between the Lines.

"I think there is one or two lads in the team at the moment that could do better so sometimes you look elsewhere.

"If he wants Adel to chase about and tackle and run, he is never going to be able to do that.

"I'll probably have a chat with him (on Tuesday) and see what he actually said."

Taarabt bagged 19 goals for Rangers on their way to the Championship title last season, but is yet to open his account in the top-flight.

And Warnock admits Taarbs is yet to prove himself at the highest level.

He added: "Yes, he might not be able to crack in the Premier League. Even Adel doesn't know that yet. He is only a young lad. You forget he is a young kid really.

"I think he is trying very, very hard at the moment and the next few games will be interesting.

"I think when you're playing the top clubs you need that something special to win you games.

"We've missed his contribution goal-wise and hopefully, if Joey plays really well and some of the other lads play really well, the opportunities for Adel will come.

"If Adel gets an opportunity and plays well he is an asset to anybody in that league.

"Yes, he has not scored in the Premier League yet, he has not set the world alight but he has had opportunities and I think [he will continue to do so]."

Warnock knew what he was taking on when he took Barton (as Warnock said himself, thats the reason QPR were able to get him). Unfortunately for you, it will be the first of many such incidents around Barton as, despite his spurios quotations on twitter etc, he seems to have a great knack of rubbing up his team mates and manager the wrong way.
We had months of similar stories at Newcastle over the least coulpe of seasons. However, because he put a shift in on the pitch and played with a passion the fans appreciated him - he also knew how to play to their emotions ('loves the Geordie nation' etc).
The reality now is that there is a certain calm and harmony within the newcastle team, and the standard of the players we have brought in means, more imporatntly that we are geting better results. You only need to read the local press in Newcastle to hearthe players constantly referrring to the 'great team spirit'. Results are obviously helping but you cant help think Barton being removed from the mix has allowed the players to gel a bit more.
The general consensus of Newcastle fans is that Barton was a very good player for us, but Cabaye/Ben Arfa etc are equally good and if not better/younger/cheaper, and the lack of bad press/media interest in everything barton says can only be a positive thing for Newcastle.

Adel Taarabt for me is the best raw talent I have seen ... And I used to watch a young Zidane
We just don't get it in England cultures are different it's us that should make some allowances here .
Zidane for me was the greatest footballer of all time yet he finished his career throwing his toys out of the pram in the biggest match you could play in. Zidane couldn't tackle and his work rate wasn't great ... What do you remember him for?

We have a player who has the potential to be as good

Barton isn't enough to talk about Adel
This will bite Barton in the arse in time
I expect Barton would take credit if AT makes it ...

As I have said I hope he gets injured watch the team spirit return then

Dave. Hope you are right about Adel - I think like you he is such a talent that he does need a little special treatment. But a team can't be made up of 11 Adels, and it has worked good with Ali and Derry playing behind him. I'm not sure how much longer Derry's legs will hold, and for me Barton is ideal to take over Derry's role if he's good enough, which he ought to be given all the hype. I hope Neal can control Adel and Barton, and get them both working together like Derry has done.
