Doesn't matter who you're playing against, that first goal is hard to defend.

When the ball comes from our box to Pritchard he has three runners to choose from and three defenders.

As soon as O'Brien attracts two defenders the path is clear for Hawkes ...

... all it needs, from there, is the confidence to either pick out O'Brien or smash it to the far corner.

O'Brien covers a lot of ground and as you say, draws defenders out of position, for our attacking players to exploit the gaps in the opposition defence.

He doesn't get the credit he deserves IMO.

What an utter load of ****e that is. It missed the post by mms and hit the side netting just behind it. Very few keepers in the world would’ve saved it. One of the best penalties. Far “better” than mcgeady at the weekend placement wise

Edit: also… the keeper went the right way and couldn’t reach it!! How good does it have to be to satisfy you?

    Good draw imo.

It'll be a good run out for those picked to play, not a big deal iif we lose and a game we could win.

And it's perfectly times for the illuminations <laugh>

I'm resurrecting this thread not only because it was another great thread started by @RTB a win for Sunderland this season but for the bit highlighted. I contacted @Nordic regarding the shorts and received them this morning. But not only has he sent up shorts but also football boots! I've thanked him privately but I also wish to thank him publicly on here. He didn't wish any payment for the items or postage - a truly selfless act and one which I am seriously grateful. Here's hoping that my grandson hasn't shot up in the last few weeks! So Nordic thank you very very much, if he decides to follow in my footsteps and doesn't suffer as much as I have following Sunderland, I have you to thank <laugh>. It just goes to show that Sunderland have some if the best fans going. Next time you're up this way for a match, I'll try to make sure I'm not working and will have a few drinks together - my round!
