I was thinking of offering the train fair to Liverpool and inviting him to repeat his statements in The Big House. It would only be a one way ticket though because he's be riding home in an ambulance!

Look at the threads tonight on the debate. One of them is even shared with General Chat, Now the boys on there are not slow in giving our big time stick and yet not one of them did about the debate. None of the mancs would even dream of making a comment. Yet some idiot feels that he has the right to come here and mouth off without even knowing what he's talking about!

The last time I was in liverpool with my lad, I took him into the The Big House to educate him - he thought it was brill!

In my day they used to have a barman called Sadie. yes he was gay, about 6'2'' and skinny as a rake. You could call him Sadie if you were a regular. One night 2 fellas came in and called Sadie a "****ing great ****". I swear to God he leant over the bar, picked them up and banged them together before dropping them. He minced off down the bar saying "Never been so frightened in my whole life!" great guy was Sadie.

    Families welcome decision

    http://www.liverpoolfc.tv/news/latest-news/families-welcome-decision

The Hillsborough Family Support Group today welcomed the unanimous passing of a motion calling for full disclosure of government documents at a united House of Commons in a debate lasting almost four and a half hours.

The Home Secretary confirmed documents will indeed be released to the panel and the families before the public, and that the government will not censor any documents.

"It's a lovely feeling to come down to see the debate and get the support of all the MPs," HFSG Chairperson Margaret Aspinall told Liverpoolfc.tv.

"It's a great evening for everyone concerned, not just the families but the fans and the survivors. We've always been on the side of caution but we're hopeful that we'll finally get the real truth of Hillsborough.

"This moment stems from the e-petition and all the support we've had for 22 years. We've got to thank all the MPs, especially Andy Burnham, Maria Eagle, Derek Twigg and Steve Rotheram who've been right behind us. The way Steve Rotheram opened the debate was fantastic, reading the names of the 96 and their ages. Everyone was moved by that. For the first time in many years I feel optimistic now."

Trevor Hicks, President of the HFSG, was also present at the debate and told Liverpoolfc.tv that he believed it marked a real step forward for both those looking for justice and parliament itself.

"I think it was a good night for parliament," he said. "I have to admit to bias but I think that's the first time I've seen parliamentary debate where there was agreement amongst the back benchers and I thought it was a positive experience.

"We've known all along that we've got the support. We've even got the support of David Cameron as well now, with his written answer to Andy Burnham. The only complaint that I have got - if I can make a small one - is that lots of people talk about Liverpool all the time.

"As you know, I live in north Yorkshire, we lived in north London at the time, and five of the seven women who died were in the London supporters' club. It was a national tragedy, it wasn't just Liverpool. Obviously it concentrated on Liverpool and so it's good that our parliament has seen sense and I honestly think it was a step forward, not only for us but for parliament as well."

Liverpool Managing Director Ian Ayre joined the families in welcoming the outcome of the debate and praised the MPs who took up the fight for justice in London last night.

"This was a debate that needed to happen and those MPs who spoke so passionately and eloquently on behalf of the 96 and their families should be commended for the way they conducted themselves last night," he said.

"It is essential that the Hillsborough Independent Panel have full, unrestricted access to all the relevant documents so they can produce a final report which answers the questions that have been asked for so long and finally provides the truth for the families who have campaigned with such dignity for the past 22 years."

Right at the end of the debate, there was a question as to the ability of Select Committees to call witnesses to answer questions that would have been in the remit of previous committees. The Speaker was very clear that the appropriate Select Committee did have the power to address historic questions and that any person called before them would be required to answer questions put to them honestly.

This ruling will be a very valuable tool in the search for the truth.

Liverpool MP Steve Rotheram's opening speech in full

    Thank you Mr Speaker.

I rise to thank the Backbench Business Committee for granting tonight’s debate following the incredible response to the Government on-line petition which attracted 140,000 signatures in just a couple of weeks.

It is because those people took the time to push the Government for the release of the Hillsborough documents - that today we are having the first ever Parliamentary debate resulting from an e-petition (although, after a fight for justice that has lasted 22 years - even this minor concession was called into question following last week’s shenanigans in this Chamber).

I would also like to thank colleagues for the fantastic response from nearly 100 MPs from 9 separate political parties who supported the application to the Backbench Business Committee.

This is a victory for democracy – a victory for people power, but it remains to be seen whether it will be a victory for the families. They have been let down so many times that they will not be surprised if there are those - that would prefer for this, to just simply go away.

For those that foolishly believe that this might be a potential outcome from tonight’s debate, let me make it absolutely clear from the start – this issue will never JUST ‘Go Away’ – NOT until there is Justice for the 96.

Mr Speaker - During this debate I will set out why I believe it is an important issue for this House to consider and outline why it is essential to press the Government on its commitment to release ALL papers relating to the Hillsborough Disaster.

I believe that all sides of the House should agree to the terms of the motion – but if not – it is my intention to press the House to a vote. My hope is that common sense, and ultimately, justice, will prevail.

Mr Speaker, I want to begin by setting out the context to this disaster as there is a fundamental misunderstanding of what happened on 15th April 1989 – and in the dark days, weeks, years – and – ashamedly, decades that followed.

There have only been a few occasions in my life when I have been completely overwhelmed by the emotion of the event I was witnessing - the birth of my 3 wonderful children – the death of my beloved mum and loss of close friends and relatives.

However, there is one other event that will live with me for the rest of my life.

And that is the tragedy at Sheffield on that beautiful spring day 22 years, 6 months and 2 days ago.

Before 1989 Hillsborough was just the name of one of England's famous old football grounds. But for the last 2 decades the word "Hillsborough" has evoked memories of Britain's worst ever sporting disaster.

It was a day when I helplessly watched frantic scenes – as people that had travelled to see a football match, some, mere children, lay injured and dying as they were pulled from the terraces.

I was one of the lucky ones that day – and all of my close friends (and members of my family) returned home, although for one (our Lisa), it was touch and go whether she would survive. Thankfully she did.

This unfortunately was not the case for 96 men, women and children who were killed – and for hundreds of others injured and left permanently traumatised. The loss of 96 innocent lives was bad enough Mr Speaker, but the tragic nature of their deaths was exacerbated by what happened next. Instead of those at fault taking responsibility for their actions, a coordinated campaign began - to shift the blame – and look for scapegoats.

To this day – NOBODY has been held to account for Hillsborough.

    Mr Speaker, a half day debate, though welcomed, is not long enough to go into all of the details of this gross 22 year injustice, so I will concentrate on the 3 main pillars of the accusations against Liverpool fans, namely that thousands;

Turned up late and were ticketless
    Were drunk and aggressive
And broke down a gate causing a catastrophic crush.
Is it any wonder that some people have doubtful and distorted views as to the exact cause of the Disaster, when misinformation began almost immediately after the players were led off the pitch at 3.06.

The BBC and ITV news that very afternoon misreported what had occurred – and it is important to understand the effect this had – as it formed the immediate public perception of Hillsborough.

i suggest you talk to some people then.

    1. those directly affect live in greif every day.

    2. serious negligence occured

    3. there was a big cover up going to thatchers desk.

    4. there were pure filthy lies printed as a result inthe conservatives favorite news paper

so you see while you may not feel impacted there are people round you who are, you should take some time to watch again the 20 year anniversary service that really you should have seen firs ttime round and put yourself in thier shoes. I was 9 and watched it on telly. i saw it happen and kind of saw the aftermath too so while nobody i knew was directly impacted I put myself in their place and feel that apologies are still the least that can be issued.

Just go down to the meorial and read the names and ages and pick out someone your age and think, if this was 1989 that could have been me. Or think i'm going into the ground and will have a safe seat with no fencing and stewards protecting me beacuse of what happened that day.
