Yeah I much preferred your pre afro days as the clean cut American Rod Serling look... please log in to view this image
Im just gonna put a little bush here and this is going to be our little secret.... and if you tell anyone, I WILL CUT YOU!
Actually...take the afro and beard away from Rob Ross and it could look very much like Rod Serling. Very fitting for the Twilight Zone.
It was never going to be easy after losing a moderator of such outstanding calibre... I do however feel slightly responsible for KPR. I had quite a few chances to have him banned. Trouble is at the time many liked him and he was/is a topic which people talk about. Most people seem to have had enough of him and many are avoiding the site as a result. I think we need to break the ties with the United board. I was pro the banter board originally as a place where we could vent a bit of rivalry. It's just poor now and builds up animosity which is dished out on the other threads. I think if we want to talk then we visit each other's board. Let's get back to basics.
I think you are reading to much into the aftermath of the match on saturday and the race row thats come out of it B4F. Its a bit of tribalism with each side defending their own as you would expect at this time.
Actualy I havent read a single post regarding the incident. I used to get a lot of stick for not taking down your article. I just feel it has run its course now and we need bring a bit of discipline back to the board. It's become an excuse for some to go to far. As we havent binned kpr fans feel "why shouldn't we say something too"? And they're quite right. I always had that dilemma as mod. I had him removed though!
I think the banter thread is fine, but we need to ditch most of the multi board threads. Most Utd - Liverpool multi board threads seem to end up going south pretty quickly, even if they start out ok. Like you say, if you want to talk about Utd do it on the Utd board, if you want to talk about Liverpool do it on the Liverpool board. If you want to banter then use the banter thread - it gets a bit heated but is generally just good banter. Does exactly what it says on the tin, and if we ditch the other cross board threads I think it will soak up all the rage again...
The banter thread serves it's purpose and too be honest it very rarely gets heated in there now. Since KPR left it has basically become the banter / off topic thread.
I believe that most of us would agree with you. But is it possible to control the number of multi-board threads that can be started? We have had some very good 'Build-Up' multi threads and it would be a shame to lose them. Also there will be times when major football issues would benefit from cross board threads. But on the whole they do de-generate rapidly.
The banter thread is fine. Yes the odd "****" is chucked around...mainly towards berb but it's all in good humour.
I haven't seen anyone wanting to close the banter thread. It serves a very useful and often entertaining purpose
I don't really agree as I think up to a point this *banter* thread really defuses some of the nastier stuff. Pre this thread I used to visit the Liverpool boards with the sole intention of talking football, our board was fairly dead at the time, but was immediately shouted down if I so much as dared disagree or had a different point of view and it often degenerated into a slanging match. There's nothing like being called a ****tard for suggesting Carrick ISN'T **** to get the hackles raised! It occasionally happens on here but not so bad as it doesn't die down swiftly. The downside to this thread though is that football rarely gets discussed with any degree of seriousness, which some of us do still like to do. Me for one. The odd multi thread is ok for this I reckon, the build up thread last week was good until Spev turned up and it all went to pot. Don't get me wrong, one or two of his posts were laugh out loud stuff but most were **** and the thread became another banter outlet with no decent football topic discussed. I think we leave this here as 95% of us get along and then for football related ones visit each other's board to see how it goes. As for the joint board ones, it's up to the mods to then decide if they're valid. If they aren't, bin 'em sharpish.
I think the banter thread serves it's purpose. However people need to remember it is there for taking the piss and to leave the genuine threads on each others boards alone unless you want a genuine debate. This seems to be happening of late imo and less threads are invaded.
