Some of the PNE fans on their forum think KLP should have been cautioned! 50/50 every day and he was perfectly entitled to challenge for that ball.

The contact causing injury was made by Rudd trying, for some very odd reason, to head the ball at waist height. Rudd's fault for the contact/injury if anything, KLP as you say had every right to challenge for it.

    Yesterday was just immense.

I’m not a prolific attender of away games, far from it,but I just had to be in attendance for the first league game with fans since March last year.

The last three away games I’d been to were Birmingham and Forest away in 18-19,and Huddersfield away in 19-20…all 3-0 defeats,so when we conceded early yesterday it was a familiar sinking feeling.

but after that we utterly dominated the first half…KLP was running rings around whoever dared challenge him on the left,Moncur was a joy to watch on the ball and Smallwood’s pass to KLP for the equaliser was so precise it was nigh-on perfect.

His goal for 2-1 seemingly went in in slow motion..from my spot in the stand to the right of the goal, from the moment it was deflected I knew it would hit the post, and the spin on it was sufficient to flick it left and in,like when a snooker player puts a bit of side on the cue ball to spin off a cushion when attempting to get out of a snooker.

after that PNE were done.Everytime we went forward we looked capable of scoring,KLP’s assist for the third was superb and Magennis’ knee slide in celebration wasn’t bad either, and the Eaves back heel assist for the fourth brought a touch of the surreal to the proceedings.

Everyone in Amber and Black were tremendous, certainly Wilks was not his usual self but with no pre-season it was to be expected, but he put in a shift,to the point he cramped up massively after he went off,and Emmanuel, despite looking shaky early on,settled into the unfamiliar left back slot and did a fine job.But Greaves and Jones, goal concession apart, looked so comfortable at times, and gave Ched Evans nothing in terms of any opportunities whatsoever, other than the opportunity to climb in either’s back pocket.

Lewie Coyle was outstanding,KLP was unplayable,Moncur looks a superb addition and Docherty, although a bit quiet going forward,as usual became more of a menace as the game wore on.

PNE looked very one-dimensional,like a lot of league one teams we played last season, and the formation change in the second half, once we sussed it out,did little to change things.

It’s only the first game, and the opening weekend of a season does throw up odd results in comparison to the rest of the season, but when you consider the two Hull City players who were in the League One team of the season for last season weren’t in the squad and we still won 4-1,well..that’s not bad,not bad at all.

A great day,and the away support was vibrant and noisy, and the players responded.

    Up the ****ing tigers.

Depth is never a bad thing especially if Hudd is well aware of his position in the pecking order. Having been without a club last season i think he'd just be happy being back on a list. There's enough mid-week and cup games that will require rotation.

He has a few offers on the table now, so doubt he'll stay with us

I may be a bit naive but he asked to come and train with us to keep his fitness up, he obviously enjoys being here, and as mentioned I don't believe he will be in the game for financial gain .. I do suspect he just loves the game. He us with a group of young lads who he has the chance to influence and with a bit of canny manoeuvring I do still believe that if the carrot of an initial step into coaching was offered he'd be quite happy to accept. Twt, but there is a good chance imho that he could stay if the club play it right.

It was pretty much a late tackle from the keeper.

My favourite thing about Saturday was the instinct to score more and not **** about in the corner at 2-1 up …. Think KLP thought about it for a second , but then whipped that great ball in for Magennis instead , one of the biggest frustrations of football that corner malarkey , unless you are okocha, nobody ever keeps it for more than 15 seconds anyway. And then at 3-1 resisted it again and Eaves taking the piss with back heels, love it!

Alan Browne quoted as saying "they just came up from League One and we should be getting in their faces". Ironic, since he got his forearm into Coyle's face not once, but twice. How he didn't even get booked for the first one was beyond me.

Agreed, but what was a positive was that rather than getting frustrated, the players seemed to rise above it, and seemed to take the need for that sort of thing as a sign that what we were doing was working, and PNE were getting frustrated, and appeared to draw strength and confidence from it.

After KLP got a shove in the back in the box during the first half but no penalty given, Fletch on iPlayer said ‘let’s hope it fires him up’. It certainly did. The Preston fans gave him grief when he didn’t get that pen so when he scored and shushed them, it was great. KLP’s best performance in a City shirt imo.

I can't believe KLP didn't get in the EFL Team of the Week he was by far the best player on the pitch even the PNE fans clapped him off when he was subbed.

Be a shame if he didn’t, but then if somebody can offer more playing time it makes sense for him to go there.
