I'm amazed Aarons is still with us. I'd assumed he'd be one of the first out this window. As things stand, if Byram is there or thereabouts i'm comfy to leave it as Max, Dimi and Mumba. We've also got Sorensen if it comes to it. I just want a bloody DM.
Reading the PinkUn this morning, how have we gone from more or less stating a few days ago that the signing of Tzolis was agreed, to a headline saying we are 'pretty confident' in David Freezer's latest post, and then the even weaker word, 'hopeful', in the subheading to the same post? Did someone jump the gun, or are our expectations being massaged by the club? EDIT: I've looked more carefully and the post actually dates from 4 August, but for some reason has now reappeared as the 'headline' post. NEW EDIT: Now the post has vanished rapidly back into the archives. OK, I guess I must trust Webber and not over-think. There's no point doing anything else.
My word would be 'orchestration', as SW spins it out to cover the agreement to allow him to play in the second leg of the Europa qualifying against Bohemians on Thursday. He'll have to isolate when he arrives as well. With Rashica, Lees-Melou and Sargent available and Cantwell likely to stay, we should be able to manage. Now about that DM...
I think Aarons is still young enough that he probably recognises that simply being in the Premier League with us is only going to help him. Sure, if a massive club comes along he will be very keen, but as a defender and with the style we play it’s all about experience. A transfer wouldn’t be risk free either - he will want to know he is going to be first choice. His only concern is injury before he gets a big contract, but that’s a risk for all footballers.
Maybe if we get enough they act like locusts and all swarm the opposition? I think this is paper speak rather than anything else
With the list of clubs linked, I suspect it's mainly paper talk. But he has rejected a new contract from Fulham and only has 12 months on his existing deal, so I can see why NCFC would be sniffing around.
I did a Norwich City Q & A with the Evening News this afternoon, and this was the answer given to a question about Sargent: I think that's mainly down to his goal record. But, 1) he is playing in a poor very Werder side that created next to nothing 2) I think we need to look past his goal record. This is a controversial concept, but not all strikers are designed to score goals. Roberto Firmino is the best example of this. His contribution isn't necessarily measured by attacking statistics and I understand why those wouldn't excite fans. But Sargent is effective against the ball. Works tirelessly and has plenty of potential. He can be effective in games where City primarily need to defend. I guess you would describe him as a pressing forward, if you boiled it down. That's not to say his goal scoring ability is rubbish, because I don't think that is true.
That's why I think Sargent could be very effective replacing Emi, whose defensive contribution will be greatly missed. He's also well suited to playing with our mobile attacking players and can add goals as well.
