As I see it , we are not willing to pay for players who will not make a significant improvement to those we have. If we are filling the squad it will be with players at least as good as those we have and they are available on frees. This move for the kids from Spurs for a reported £1.3m, shows that if the quality is there we will buy.

So we will spend but only on the right players, not like previous years just to get bodies in and to a certain extent to please a fan base who say they only want us to spend money on quality, but then list eight or nine players of quality as a minimum requirement.

If we have long term ambition, there's little point in paying fees for short term solutions. Pay money for players who will make the step up, loans and frees for those who will help us get out of the division.

There's nothing wrong with signing decent players on a free either - I think some fans would rather there was loads of money spent on equally reasonable players, than picking them up for nowt.

I also think the players we've signed so far in this window are looking good, sound investments.

    It’s not an argument.

It’s an observation. The league starts tomorrow and we haven’t spent a penny.

    We hope so.

But I’m talking about the players we haven’t signed, for the positions we haven’t filled.

So how could we have spent any money on players we haven't signed?

    OK, replace argument with 'opinion'.

What you said, and I quoted, was ' if this guy hasn’t got the finances to get us out of league 1, why is he here?'

That's definitely total guesswork and most likely total nonsense.

Have you any idea how much he's spent so far bringing in a proper staff, preparing the stadium, putting in a pitch, etc.

The window is still open for nearly a month during which we might spend a fortune.

Where will that leave all this speculation about us being skint.

If we bring the right players in the next month, fair enough. I’d be happy with that.

What is concerning though, despite the proper staff you say he’s brought in, the league starts tomorrow, and we are miles short.

I don't believe that's strictly true tbh although I want players in, which I think we'll get.

We can put out a team with Doyle, McGeady, O'Nien, Gooch, Embleton, Evans, all of whom could get into most teams in this league.

Stewart needs back up but the striker role will be slightly less critical than last year.

We almost went up in our first season when Wyke only scored half a dozen if you remember.

I'm expecting many more goals from midfield this season and for McGeady to get more himself.

I'm very happy with Winchester at right back, not an issue in my opinion and he probably wouldn't have started in midfield so no loss there.

    I wouldn't say we're miles short but it's definitely a few hundred yards <laugh>

I really don’t get this “we haven’t spent any money” argument or opinion or whatever the **** you want t to call it.
We’ve spent lots of money in the past and where has that got us? In league ****ing 1 that’s where.
I’d much rather we spent sensibly on players that can either grow with us or can be sold at a profit than spunking 3 ****ing million on a ****e player who can’t do the business.

I for one applaud this new approach to recruitment. Yes I think we are short in key areas but we still have time to sort that.

Now is not the time for panic.

Said it last night - if this lad from Spurs is an indication of the approach then I am all for it.

Previous regime would have panicked and brought in a load of free transfers who "know the division" whatever that actually means

Exactly. Most of our signings in the past have elicited a meh or whatever from the fans of those clubs.

now we’re picking up a player from spurs and the fans are up in arms about. This can only be a good thing imo.
I’m hopeful we can and will do good business before the window closes. I think we’ve got players who can do a job in the short term until we can get the players in we want.

I think the OP might be forgetting the money KLD has invested in the infrastructure of the club? The players will come, but what was truly needing an overhaul imo, has now received one.

Infastructure improvements are fantastic and early signs are great but the can't defend our goal and win us points this season. I hope we can get the players we so obviously need. The defenders alone would also improve midfield as options would be increased and competition would increase performances imo. Going forward we already look good (obvs can improve further) if we can tighten up the defence we could be a real force in this league.

With the players we have there's nothing to fear but fear itself ...

... the club will strengthen, now and in January, which will make us a force, as you rightly say.

Rich people don’t squander money as a rule , they are calculating and invest wisely and I am sure our new owner and management team are all singing from the same hymn sheet . In the past we as a club have wasted millions on buying the wrong players at the wrong time and then selling them on at massive loss or in some cases total loss , the management team will be as anxious as the fans to put those days behind us and recruit only players that represent good value for money and will add value to the playing strength of our squad . The new owner from the outset stated he wanted the club to be sustainable , that does not mean he will not spend money , it means he will only spend money if it is going to make a difference . I think we need to support the new owner and his management team and the club will progress unlike previous years when our fall down the league pyramid was accompanied by racking up massive losses . Interesting to note our friends up the road NUFC have reported a yearly loss of over £54 million last year .

Worth saying that Twitter and fans forums of Ipswich and Sheff Wed are full of people saying they look like a bunch of players thrown together with no plan.

And Wigan journo Paul Kendrick correctly pointed out that Wigan started well but then when we took control of the game just started lumping it up to Charlie. He also said Charlie didn’t get much service. Which just again proves what we all know about his movement. But also shows they don’t really know how they want to play yet.

But my point being that ironically our fans have been saying we are throwing points away by not having new players in early. I actually think the opposite could end up being true. The other sides who have invested loads and have loads of new players, are going to take a few weeks at least to work out what works for them.

Instead LJ and Speakman have worked out what we need for our team to play to a specific plan. And players coming in can seamlessly slot into that plan. And by the time we get our full backs in, the rest of the team will be settled as well.
