Calm down before you burst a blood vessel sweety. Somebody asked where the term sprang from and I answered. No harm done :)

:) - but you didn't really just answer a question did you, you came over to have a little dig.

I don't even believe your so-called explanation, I think it's simply people saw the words Spurs and spuds were similar - so it was used

I suspect early on there wasn't even any particular malice in the use - but we all know now when London fans use it about us it's usually a nasty, childish little dig

I tend to give Northerners the benefit of the doubt when they use it, cos I think, by and large they're not being malicious in its use.

When I saw the title of this article I thought this must be another Mail story (Story a fictional tale) so I opened it, and guess what!

Am I the only Spurs fan who can't get worked up about being called Spud? It is certainly not the worst thing I have been called, and that was nothing to do with my Spurs allegiances. As stated earlier, it is only used because of it's similarity to our nickname, and isn't picking anything out of our makeup to pillory us. I certainly reserve the right to call other fans Chavs, Goons. Mercanaries and Wet Spammers, so being called Spud in response is not the end of the world. Besides, the more we rail against it, the more it will be used!

    It's never meant that.

It's always meant a long, lanky streak of piss of a person. Someone a bit dense. Bone head. Dense as a vegetable. Dull. Boring. Monotonous.

It's like Suarez calling Evra a spade then saying "Oh no, I mean the garden digging tool. Surely you can't be offended by that?"

You need to use a slang dictionary, not an Oxford one :)

    spud:
noun, means acting like a vegetable, dense, not too alert.

A particularly inneffective person, thing or action. Usually in the sporting arena but can be used for a variety of professions.

A slang term for an Irishman.

A general nickname for anyone who has a tendency to be a bit slow. Usually, this nickname will go to someone by the name of Murphy.

Used to describe an ugly or unattractive person.

(I do appreciate that local slang has different meanings, but that adds nothing to my argument <whistle>)

So the Wum chips in, spud is a degoratory term, used by people like you to annoy us. There is nothing affectionate in it in the hands of people like you. I notice you chucked sours in as well, charming. Two cheap insults in one sentence, well done, you must be proud of yourself <ok>

So Blackpool's and Birmingham's demise is explained by this - but West Ham's. They spent a lot for no points <laugh>

Does this also mean Liverpool have spent a lot on rubbish. Who'd have thought that?

There is another calculation you could do on this, but can't quite get my head round the best way to do it. Basically you could also reflect the actual position finished compared to money spent. I'm not sure which rankings to compare though, but it should reflect the fact that for example, Spurs came 5th but paid out the 10th most, so we would be on +5 or something. It gets more difficult on how to rank clubs that are negative though, it might only work for those that are higher in the league place than the value per point table.

Sorry GH, but if you KNOW that, then just ignore the twat, and he'll get fed up, go and play somewhere else.

Your season tickets went on general sale and you can't sell out your Champions League games.

    He's a journalist?

Given our game was in Thessaloniki, talking about 100 Spurs fan going to Athens doesn't mean anything other than a poor sense of direction. By the way, how're the Genk tickets shifting?

Croyden - they're close to 40k by the look of it and even if they weren't, it's a boycott <doh>

    Bizarrelly shifting surprisingly well.

I thought there would be a shameful attendance (like mid 30000) but fans seem to have ignored the boycott and only Matty Harding upper left.

I'm refusing to go, at £40 a ticket it is too expensive; especially for an established Champions League club that has played 100 games in the competition in the last decade.

I say boycott the match and get tickets down to Rubin levels like £25... maybe £35 max

What's the attendance for Rubin looking like?

saw ads on the Tube for them; £25 a ticket....bargain I reckon to see my youngsters.

Our carling tickets are £25 and we usually get 40k

There may be a reason for the curiously high sales:
    http://www.dailymail.co.uk/sport/fo...Champions-League-tickets-scupper-protest.html

Make your mind up, either the tickets are close to selling out or the ground will be half empty. Although when I say "close to selling out", that may well be a euphamism for "enough of them have been given away."
