I don’t know about Elder but I’m pretty certain that in our relegation season that George was constantly trying to make up for the rest of his inept midfield partners, it always looked that way to me anyway.

With the lad from Man City and Tom H I think our midfield is fairly strong. Maybe not promotion-contending 'strong' but enough to hold its own in this league. Alfie and Greaves are talented but inexperienced. Our keeper options are solid. Centre-forward is really the only position I'm worried about so a loan would do me nicely for this window.

It isn't looking likely now by all accounts, it's not from our end though, so wouldn't be shocked if it changed yet again. Grant wants him and has been his No1 target since the end of last season. He's been backed by the club in regards to the deal with him, it's the sheff utd side that's messed about constantly

Eaves got his goals if you consider his minutes played. He looked clumsy and a bit rusty at times but a lot of that was down to a stop/start season due to injury.

Looks like we have the option to play Longman up top now also, as well as Wilks and KLP.

Considering the players we lost and the budget he got, I think he did a very good job for the 1st half yes

As brucie would say “your only as good as your forwards”. Which is why ultimately I think we’ll struggle this season

KLP and Wilks are both good enough to hit double figures and Magennis should get 6-8.

Irvine was disappointing and I wouldn't say he was a technical player. I forgot about Kane to be fair but would say hes technically quite gifted, just a young player finding his way.

Perfect example of that being true is Barnsley last season. Very young squad who on paper should've never been near the play-offs and yet they were, because they worked hard and played good football as a team.

I liked Kane too and he's doing well at Barnsley. I'd have him back. Batty and Stewart were good too but I think we have better options than those two now, is what I meant.

I liked Batty, still do. Stewart i felt never really fulfilled his potential, but i dont deny that he had the potential and ability to be an asset, just never really was - not at 40k a game anywy.

Imo it will all get a little hectic towards the last few days of the window when the PL teams make their final moves etc.... Grealish to man City may just kick start a chain reaction that filters down to loans to champ teams
