Excellent platform which Prest helped to set there. To some extent, the rest can come in and play some shots now.
Difficult to know what par is in a 37 over match, but I'd suggest it's more than that. Initially I was thinking maybe 260 to 270 - about 7 per over. Then I knocked it down to about 240, given that the conditions would probably assist the seamers.
Abbott completely forgetting how to bowl. Plus we should have bowled first. Seriously bad decision to choose to bat first.
Poor fielding from us. But ultimately we should have scored far more than we did. In our last 20 overs, we only just scored more than 100. I'd love to know what Scriven's role is. That's the second time that we've picked him and not bowled him. We surely can't be picking him to be an out-and-out batter at number 9? We basically played with 10 players today.
Jack Taylor can take down many a bowler. Especially with a short looking boundary. Especially once he's got his eye in. He's someone who can rightly feel aggrieved about not getting a 100 contract. He might not get too many big scores (particularly because he bats down in the middle order), but he does get quick scores. For example, he'd be way more suited to bat at no.6 for Spirit than Denly is. Abbott's economy is more reflective to me of how bad we went in the second half of our innings.
Realistically, that is us out now. Even if we were to win both of final matches, I'm struggling to see that 9 points would be enough to finish 3rd. There's still a number of matches left involving the sides above us - Lancs v Worcs, Lancs v Essex, Durham v Essex, Worcs v Durham - that points will continuously be picked up. It would have to be a rather specific set of results to keep at least two of those four sides within our reach. And that's before considering Gloucs' nice looking final two.
We were saying that in the T20, mind you we don't play Glos again this time. This was always the comp we were least likely to succeed in.
TBH, The One Day Cup is literally now a competition to blood youngsters and give reserve players chances. Not exactly a disaster if we don't qualify.
