The lad from PSV, noni Madueke would be my first choice. Seems to be a really exciting prospect, but i think it’s unlikely we can get him.
Problem being, in a game of brinksmanship we're just as poorly positioned as Blackburn, because we badly need a striker (two, really) and everyone in England knows it. We're probably better off just moving on to other targets. Throw £20m Celtic's way for Edouard instead, for instance, maybe even a shade more. Armstrong isn't the only striker out there, there's no reason to create a situation where we're potentially scrambling for a last-minute replacement on deadline day.
I’d be surprised if we got more players in until last week of window. My source is telling me we will be surprised who their after and just might land. Sounds promising if it works out. CYS….let’s be ‘avin you!!
I'd say we are in a much better position. Blackburn need to sell Armstrong this window, we have plenty of other options as you say. I suppose our best bet is to progress with other targets and if we get close to one, make a final take it or leave it offer for Armstrong as I believe he is our no.1 target.
We do have a history of pulling a cunning stunt or two. How boring it would have been had that Ings chappy signed a new contract.
Our position dwindles the closer we get to the deadline, though. Blackburn has other suitors, but they also aren't 100% forced to sell this window...they'd have to take less money in January, but their worst-case is a few mil less and a better season in the Championship. Our worst-case is a last-second blind panic attempt to sign someone, anyone, for whatever it costs, something we've experienced in years past and which never ends well for us.
If Ralph thinks Redmond can play as one of his most advanced 2 then perhaps he thinks the same of this guy irrelevant as I imagine the price is too high unless we use our “selling club” track record and see if they go for a lower fee but much higher sell on
