http://www.saintsfc.co.uk/page/NewsDetail/0,,10280~2485151,00.html Official site has confirmed that Pompey away will now be a bubble trip. The only way to travel will be by official coach and match tickets will be handed out only whilst upon them. For me this has ruined the game I have been anticipating for years and I feel like I will never quite get the 'derby experiance' I have always dreamed of. Thoughts?
Safety first. Saints are doing so well, do we want to get in trouble with the FA. It's not always the proper football fans, but troublemakers from both sides.
Some will say that it has now been ruined for them. For me it would be a lot worse if someone was killed or serverly injured due to a lack of safety measures such as this.
If by "derby atmosphere", you mean dodging the abuse of the locals as you walk through Portsmouth with a massive police escort, then that is a side of football that doesn't interest me at all. You will get into Fratton Park, and I think that will be quite hostile enough to get the atmosphere going.
I understand that for Saints fans living in and around Pompey (and in some cases, the IOW), a very short journey to Fratton Park has suddenly been made a lot longer, but I honestly think this is a very safe and sensible way of doing it so I'm right behind the decision.
I don't mean the "derby atmosphere" by abusing local and other football fans. I simply mean I enjoy a sing song and a few beers before the match, which will be far more passionate due to the opposition. The tension of travelling by a ram packed train special to an away game is something I've always wanted to experiance and it seems I won't get a chance.
A right pain in the backside for me living in Emsworth having to drive all that way to come all the way back etc , espcially as I have decent pompey fans as friends would make sure I got in and out safely...still I have only been to one away game so far this season so I think my chances of getting a ticket are limited anyway , suppose that will keep the missus happy if I am not there!
yeah that has ruined the whole of the buzz i was feeling towards it. Stupid idea it has taken all the enjoyment out of it
I never find matches against teams in relegation trouble much fun to be honest. Do I really want to pay £90 for Mrs IOAG and me to sit in a shed for 2 hrs when I could do that in more comfort in the garden? Assuming the coaches survive running the guantlet through the local neanderthals, it'll take weeks to get the smell of creosote off my clothes. I think I'll give it a miss.
My away game count probably won't be quite good enough. Ohwell, the main thing is i'll be at the game in April!
Am I the only one that is a bit confused? Will the tickets go to the season ticket holders who have been to the most away games? Is that this season or since we've been on the database? I hope to use my mum or dad's season ticket to get me a ticket (they're too old for this kind of behaviour ) although I don't know if this would work. I'm probably thinking about this too much...
it doesnt clearly say, i would say its probably games from this season however its worth phoning up or emailing and asking
