    Rudimentary maths here:

    93 goals in 263 games = 0.35 goals a game in all competitions. over a 38 game season = 13 goals expected.

But he is at the peak of his career now and I would expect him to exceed 15 goals in an injury free season.

I would say he was at his peak when he was 26-27 - the season he scored 22 goals.

A footballer's peak years are said to be 26-30.

No way is he a worse player than 2 years ago IMO.

Does that remain their peak post two series knee injuries? I don’t know the answer as I am sure it varies

When he played last season he still scored top class goals.

I have just come away from a conversation with the guy who owns the gym. He trained the current strength and conditioning coach at Saints

Strength training is optional in pretty much all premier league clubs. They don’t focus on it and are probably 30-40 years behind in this area

Context: there was a post somewhere (I don’t think here) the other day where someone said Harry Kane should hit the gym and get stronger and faster. And I mused on whether that was possible and what was stopping him doing that.

Apparently some of the standouts (Ronaldo and Zlatan) have their own private strength coaches - despite strength coaches being employed by their clubs

The main focus in the gym for football players is injury prevention. That is it.

I saw a picture the other day - either linked here or on Instagram - of Fraser holding 15kg dumbbells for what appeared to be some overhead pressing. FFS the dude is over 90kg and 6’7”. That is embarrassing. I’m sure he doesn’t care but still (obviously no suggestion that is the most he can do but that weight should be pointless for someone that size other than for curls - which have no real function for his sport)

And this kind of approach is extended to like I said - the recovery. If you are serious then you’d use your fortunes to make it possible. And I am sure some do.

And if he has an injury-free season he may indeed repeat an achievement he's in reality managed once in seven Premier League seasons.

I'm not saying he's anything other than class when he plays but I am trying to put a fact or two behind the image we may have of him of being a regular 20+ striker.

As far I'm concerned I was glad to see him on the team sheet when he was fully fit and very liked his overall contribution to the team. However, as soon as he and the Club started messing around with might/might not sign, I lost interest in him being a longer term asset. It now seems money only was the motivation for him, ok, so be it, if that's all that matters to you, then in the not too distant future that approach will end in tears. So thanks Danny, we can now divert our full interest on those who will continue to serve our Club. It's business and that's all.

Depends where he was in his regieme (if it exists). Could be wave loading, where you increase weight progressively in sets of deacresing reps. You can also flip it, exhausting the muscles ending with high reps of light weights.

Danny Ings is a class player when fit. He is clever and skillful. For 1 and a half seasons he was one of the best strikers in the Premier League.

There is always a but though with Danny Ings and that is if he stays fit. If he stays fit and has a run of games he will score goals if not he will be in and out of the side and he won't score.

It is like betting big on black on roulette. When it comes up happy days but will probably come up red more often so you're hoping those big wins will compensate for when you get nothing.

I bear him no ill will and just take the positives of him being here which were the fabulous goals and all round play. No-one chooses to be injured and he would've been as frustrated as we were last season because it messed up his chances for England.
He will have his own reasons for moving which are probably financial but that doesn't make him a bad person and I know he has done lots for charity in the past.

Moving for money isn't a problem - most of us on here would do it too, providing it didn't affect your working conditions/work/life balance too much.

He was never going to say "Oh am looking to move because the £80k a week Saints are offering isn't enough" because in the scheme of things it is. He was always going to mention wanting to win trophies etc, because as a footballer he does. We may be his boyhood club, but this is his job. When he is 35+ he will come back to St Mary's as a fan and support us probably.

I also prefer that he's gone to Villa and not a club like Spuds as I respect Dean Smith a lot and hope that they do well.
