You probably wont believe this but the club did a security check on one block of turnstiles. They had security on the stadium side of the turnstiles. In one hour something like 400 entered on concessionary tickets who were not entitled to it. This was at a Fc game.
The bigger problem when we reached the Premier league was people buying whole sections of seats, especially in the West Stand which were considered the best and most expensive seats in the stadium but purchasing them on concessionary rates. They would simply upgrade them to adults for the more attractive games thus leaving them empty for the run of the mill games.
It was far from a 'tiny problem'.

So because Hull FC rugby fans were cheating the system and not enforcing their own rules the owners of Hull City decided to remove conncessions from Hull City fans.

Any changes to FC ticketing arrangements?

Its not a problem now because the ground isn't full. It was a problem when we were at full capacity.
Its also not a problem now because the system was scrapped yet some on here are determined to keep going over old ground.

I do say so - but then so did Hull City (a certain well known former Hull City employee) and that's how I know.

It was tongue in cheek, but actually I did consider it as kids tickets are so cheap.

Thinking about it though why couldn't there be the exact same problem now? (I'm probably missing something)

Again believe it or not the problem at the time was flagged up after complaints from our own supporters. Mainly about the number of empty seats in the West Stand ( rows and rows of them) for some games in the Premier League. When the club looked into it they realised what was happening. They had been bought as concessionary seats and were not used for most games and upgraded to adults for the big games. The complaint was from fans paying full pops who wanted to sit there. For the rugby, and don't quote me on this, but I believe their rental agreement ( the amount paid) depended on the size of the gate. Concessionary tickets didn't count, only those paying full pops.

It was the club themselves that admitted to this. Their initial findings were based on targeting seats which were known to be 'concession seats'. Using the CCTV cameras it was noticed that many were occupied by people you appeared to be too old to be juniors and yet too young to be senior members. Some time later it was recognised that family groups were not always sitting in their correct seats (e.g. dad was sitting in son's seat and vice versa)

I was just saying the same issue could happen now couldn’t it? If I’d bought a kids ticket what would stop an adult using it that wouldn’t have stopped it before?

There are random checks now and I believe the turnstiles flash up 'concessionary' when one is used and this is supposed to alert the steward on duty. Not sure if that was the case before.

    Probably not
Just seems that whatever works now could have worked then?

(not trying to live in the past…I only just considered it)

They did at the time the membership scheme was implemented, it was a simple problem to solve, but a ridiculously over the top, unnecessary and damaging solution was implemented instead.

The club had absolutely no idea how many people were abusing the system, but even they didn't think it was a massive amount, Mooney was very uncomfortable while trying to justify the actions they took.

Implementing a membership system at City quite obviously had no effect on anything that happened at FC.
