Such was my desperation for some football I can’t believe I paid £8 for this!
We have been bloody abysmal this half and it should be 2 or 3 nil. We have no outlet at all up front.
I know it’s only a friendly but bloody hell we look like we are a league 1 team playing against them

The big problem is the lack of really good players. The only Spur who would make Chelsea's lineup today is Hojbjerg (for Kovacic). Dier and Tanganga are especially weak. Son and Reguilon are good on their day, but not today.

Dier had no choice but to go with Werner. Tanganga hesitated in coming over. But where was Hojbjerg?

1-0 HT. Shameful 45 minutes of football, if you can call it that.
No striker, wonky midfield and a poor defence.
The manager's got limited options, but the team selection is wrong and his system isn't working.
Bergwijn and Skipp/Hojbjerg need to go off at half-time and be replaced by players in position.
Scarlett can have some time up front and we should abandon the 4-3-3.

Your dislike of Hojbjerg is only matched by @Dier Hard 's dislike of Winks <laugh>

Tanganga was at fault. He wasn't actually picking anyone up, so why hesitate?
That's why he needs regular football. He's old enough to have been starting for a while now.
Hojbjerg was covering the space that Tanganga moved into, I think.

I think Tanganga was trying to cover him properly shifting it onto his left but failed to realise he completely left the straight forward drill it into the bottom corner wide open. Don’t think you can blame Hojberg for this it was Lucas’s error

    Pretty dire.

Players looked good against League One opposition but now we’re facing Prem opposition many of them are being exposed.

Dele has been murdered by Kante so far. Not a surprise he didn’t play under Jose.

Lucas useless so far. Son’s barely had a sniff and Bergwijn is still looking like the player of last season.

Painful. Can we just forfeit the City game next week?

I don't dislike him but he makes a lot of mistakes. If one of our forwards loses the ball on halfway and the opposition can score through the middle without our main defensive midfielder even being in the picture something has gone wrong.

You are way more forgiving of othet layers making mistakes than Hojbjerg imho.
Fair enough but I do find it funny

I wonder if we'll persist with this 433 nonsense once the season starts.

I'm convinced we don't have the players to make it work, including those who are absent tonight.

Unlike simpler systems like 352 or 442, once you lack the personnel for 433 you effectively have no midfield and no attack and your defence faces relentless pressure all game. By contrast, a 352 at least gives license to your WBs to stretch the game while 442 gives you the numerical advantage in midfield.

433 is neither here nor there. I've never been a fan of it and tbh have witnessed the worst football I've seen us play in 15 years using it as a system. Only Liverpool and City have used it successfully in the PL and they are miles better than us.

    Recipe for disaster methinks.

Because he shouldn't be anywhere near him.
Alli works best playing off a striker and making runs into the spaces left around him.
Mourinho restored him to that position when he first came in and he did well, as did the team.

We lack any creativity in the midfield and both Portuguese coaches have tried to fix that with Alli.
Dropping him deep nullifies him and prevents him being either a goal threat or a menace around the box.
We're breaking another area of the team to try and sort out one that already doesn't work.

Everyone else points out the other mistakes but Hojbjerg gets a free pass for some reason.
