Well he also is moving to a club who in his few seasons left at the top level are showing more ambition to make Europe than his current side are. Think this is a decent move for all parties really, we just have to spend the money well. You’d assume Armstrong will be coming in as the striker replacement, would like us to sign another player as well
Even so, they've lost the one player who could have taken them to the CL. Ings, as good as he is, can't do that on his own. I don't think Villa are that good TBH. They were ****ing awful in 19/20 season when they barely stayed up. Yes they improved a lot last season but a lot of that was down to Grealish. I think this could turn out to be a foolish move for Ings.
Not sure I agree, Villa just sold their best player and we didn’t have a choice with Ings having only one year left. Could he just what we need to invest other areas. Think we lose Obefemi too and get two new Strikers in.
Yeah this is what I’ve been saying. Around £30m to spend and over £100k in salary budget? You can only really complain if they get a Carrillo to replace him.
Villa finished bottom half last season, same as us. They were 4 positions ahead of us. With Grealish off neither of us are getting European football anytime soon. We all know why he has signed...
So Villa happy to throw 30mill at Ings, in the last year of his contract but only offer 25mill for JWP? I think this completely rules out JWP to Villa now anyway.
It could be. They've also added Leon Bailey, who has been excellent in the Bundesliga, and Buendia, who looked good in the Championship/PL over the past three years. There are certainly no guarantees, but those three plus Watkins, Traore and El Ghazi are -- on paper, at least -- a really impressive attacking group. Enough so that one wonders whether they should have focused more resources on keeping the ball out of their net.
I like the Bailey signing but it could take a while to adapt to the physicality of English football. Buendia could be a good pick up but he's still way below Grealish in terms of ability. The others tend to blow hot and cold. If Ings gets injured they could struggle to find the net.
So high quality that only Villa were willing to commit to a good offer for him? Let’s be honest. In a lot of people’s minds we’re replacing 22 PL goals and 38 games. We’re not. Last year he managed about 12 off of 29. The question I keep asking and nobody wants to consider is: does that output improve this year? Next year? He may smash it at Villa but I’m not sure that he turns out to be value at 30m and a three year deal at over 100k/week.
It’s quite clearly going to be Armstrong for roughly £15m It’s just whether we now get an additional player with the rest of the money
He's rumoured to be going to Atalanta. Chelsea look to be getting Lukaku from Inter, Inter will replace him with Zapata of Atalanta, and Atalanta will then go for Abraham. Allegedly. Arsenal also rumoured to be interested in Abraham.
