He was also going to play there for the season in his last year at Wigan before joining us at one point
What's the crack with that lad from Seff U? Been working all weekend and yesterday so haven't had a chance to catch up.
The thing is Power was so ****ing **** in midfield that we thought he looked good at right back. He really wasn't but we were just so used to piss poor midfield performances it was deemed acceptable, anything to keep him out of the middle
Even Ipswich and Wigan are struggling to an extent. I know that sounds daft but we've said we still want 4-6 in. Wigan still want/need 6 or 7 and haven't been able to sign anyone after that initial rush and Ipswich still need about 5 or 6 in too, though I appreciate they're ticking along slightly more steadily with signings.
Wigan HAD to act early as they had about 6 professionals on their books at the start of pre season. I'd rather go with what we have than just fill the squad out with freebies
I still maintain that whether this squad is weaker than the last or not, we seem to be playing better anyway. Last year we had more players that equalled up to a poor performance. This year we have fewer that seem to be equalling better. People can criticise LJ if they want, but it does seem he's getting the team playing in a better way. We just need to see it turn into results on the pitch. I still think there were plenty of things to criticise LJ about last season, but in all he deserves a chance to mould the team he wants. And as Gab Sutton just said to me on twitter - he'd much rather have Lee Johnson with a paper thin squad missing some players (full backs) than Phil Parkinson with the perfect squad.
No news mate. He seems to have a lot of interest and is considering options. Everywhere seems to think we are still favourites (other than Sunderland fan sites)
In a way I think that is why. It was a way of keeping him involved and fixing a problem for us. He was a very influential and popular member of the squad and bombing him out completely midseason would have done Johnson no favours and I think he knew that.
If the website is down then they're updating it with the two or three signings they're announcing. He said, with absolutely NO EVIDENCE to back it up.
The players seem to be enjoying playing which hasn't been the case for years. Last season Jones, Maguire, Power were dragging themselves through games. The way they celebrated Grigg's goal was great to see ... ... if they don't like Johnson, as some are claiming, they're bloody good actors.
Doncaster expect a decision either way today, according to this article https://www.doncasterfreepress.co.u...oan-deal-for-sheffield-united-striker-3332415
Having made his PL debut he can't be on low wages, I doubt if Doncaster or Burton could afford him tbh.
I guess it depends what proportion of wages Sheff Utd are looking to be covered by he loaning club. Placing him in the best place for his development may be more of a priority than the financials. It's been suggested by Sheff Utd media that that would favour us anyway.
thank you for that, hadn't seen that. that is encouraging for earlier news than I was expecting... hopefully its good news!
I was told on Friday that Sunderland have spoken to the club and player whereupon they agreed a deal for a season long loan without a call back option. In my usual optimistic way I took that to mean he was coming here for certain. As you say though, we may have offered the better deal but that doesn't mean we'll get him.
That sounds very promising. I guess, as we saw with the Gallacher deal, until it's all properly signed off then things can crop up and scupper it. Fingers crossed we can get it done though, I like the look of the lad, hopefully we'll know more by the end of the day.
Know the plan was he was going to if he'd had stayed at Wigan (and Reece James didn't turn in to the player he did) but did he actually play there in his career before that intention?
