I don't expect everyone to agree with me cos I is worse than a woman scorned Tbh it's not a length of service thing for me ... respect for the club and fans is a huge part of it. VDV was respectful in how he left. So was Klinsmann (no matter how twatty Sugar behaved. Would say the same about Sheringham. Refusing to play in a match (Berbatov and Modric) or to return to training (Bale and Kane) or publicly slagging off the club (Rose) is a disgrace. Signing a contract and 2 months later demanding to leave is treating the club with no respect (keane). For me this kills the "legend" tag. I'd never say they were bad players or that they gave us great moments and memories would not be interested in listening to them compared to Ledley or Defoe for example.
Actually, this is one thing I 'm dreading Remember how the Mansourite fans nicked a goal celebration from Lech Poznan? Considering their fans, best exemplified by that **** Chas & Dave, anyone else expecting to hear us being regaled with a song of how he's one of their own?
Oh we've noticed Yeah I get what you're saying and respect certainly goes a long way. I do also think though that level of quality has to come into play. For instance Soldado showed us respect, Holtby showed us respect, hell even Winks shows us respect but ultimately no one would ever consider players like that legends. I immediately get pissed off when top players act up, applied to Berba, Keane, Modric, Bale and it now also applies to Kane too but equally I doubt I would've enjoyed watching Tottenham as much over the years if it wasn't for these players and so with that in mind, whilst they certainly leave a sour taste, I think I'd be willing to call them legends too. There's somewhat of a black mark by their name that will remain but to have witnessed these sorts of players play for us has been a joy for me and whilst I always hope they flop when they leave, they still leave a lasting impression for me with primarily positive thoughts. Maybe there should be a legend tier system. Players like Ledley are god tier. Players like Dawson are much loved tier. Players like Bale, Modric and now possibly Kane are "**** you but you're still a legend" tier, lol.
This just in: Harry Kane has tested positive for Covid because he knows what is good for him Also, the balls of Gary Neville and Jamie Carragher have shrunk to the size of peppercorns
I’m struggling to think of the last player to play for Sours that I’d consider a proper legend. Possibly Gary Mabbutt. Bale, Modric, VdV all great players but not legends in my eyes
For me (since Premier League started): Mabbutt Edinburgh Ginola Ledley Defoe Sheringham VDV Ledley Vertonghen
Tbf I did love le magnifique. He had that X factor. Deserved to play in a better Spurs team than he did.
Depends what club you want to transfer to. If you're going to United, Citeh or Pool you can do pretty much anything you want and the pundits will give you a free pass for any shenanigans. For example the crap that 'best defender in the world (TM)' did at Southampton before getting his move to Pool was never condemned and quickly forgotten. And no doubt we will be seeing a big fine heading Citeh's way for tapping up Kane - because I don't think I've heard of any formal bid? Yeah right.
