They argued the fuel pump broke on Vettel's car, which is why they stopped, so perhaps the idea is that prevented sampling? Do they normally have the ability to run the fuel pump in reverse and dump all the fuel from the lines back in the tank, so it can be sampled?

Also seen a suggestion that the shape of the tank, with various cutouts for batteries, etc, might mean the FIA probe can't get to where the fuel has pooled. That's a design error though, the test is clear that the fuel has to be obtainable through the standard FIA sampling procedure. Taking the car to bits and draining fuel from a line isn't allowed.

Must admit my first thought was a secret compartment or something , but I think that would have been spotted by now . If Vettels fuel pump broke , that , sadly , is hard luck .

Very much so. Let me not pull any punches, my daughter is not on here so won't be embarrassed. My concern is this could end Lewis's title defense this year and what he is describing may prove to be a safety risk. My daughters symptoms are the following (all quite common for Long COVID sufferers).

Lack of coordination or weakness/weak grip, Lewis not being able to lift the Champagne is a good example.
What my daughter describes as Brain fog, like a veil coming down, effects the eye focus. Happens without warning. This really concerns me for safety, may cause Lewis to have his licence suspended.
Dizzy spells - this is very common for long term sufferers and can cause the room to spin and losing ones balance. Again just comes on. This is a safety risk for Lewis. She controls this with medication but it makes her drowsey.
Breathlessness and exhaustion. My daughter has an oxygen machine at home still and is on a strong steroid inhaler to help her.
Pain, just generally. My daughter is on a Morphine drug for this (Tramodol).
Pins and Needles, or rather the sensation just before the full blown pins and needles.
Diahorrea - nick named COVID tummy. Very little warning and is just like water, 3 to 4 times a week. Peeing in the car may have a different meaning if he develops this symptom.
Insomnia - for which they have put her on sleeping tablets.
    Headaches

My daughter very nearly died so has this in the extreme but Lewis has already spoken of the top 4 and it is visual, for the public to see. He is super fit and he could not get up on the podium for the group photo. If they persist he may put himself or other drivers at risk. Seriously worried he may have to pull out this season. The medication for the dizzy spells, the morphine, the eye focus (like looking through a veil).

That BC007 drug sounds promising but needs trialling. I have alerted my daughter to it.

I liked that for the information provided .

I can't think of what to say except I wish your daughter and you and the rest of yours all the very best .

I also hope Lewis doesn't take any unnecessary risks with his health for an 8th championship THIS year . Throw RBR a bone this year , and win it next year .

    New regs etc .

Seriously I hope he puts his health above EVERYTHING else , Iike to think TOTO and the rest feel the same .

The report I read, might have been bbc, suggested the team helped the FIA by attempting to get more fuel out and failed to get any more out which does suggest it was properly empty to me.

The appeal seems hopeless. The rules aren't written to say that you must have a litre of fuel in the car, it says you must be able to provide the sample without disassembling the car.

    Clearly, AM can't.

George is getting a Merc test on the new 18" tyres at Hungaroring on Tuesday!!!!! That will be a nice little test for Merc to observe!! I am sure they know the rough difference in lap times on the new tyres vs quali on Saturday. Perfect timing for Toto to assess who he is putting in the Merc for 2022!
Be interesting to see if anything is reported after the event.

Horner whining again to Auto Bild. He is quoted as saying 'Merc used a great strategy to use Bottas to take them out'!!!!
    Talk about stoking the fire!
If Merc did have a strat to get Lando to pass Bottas and cut back in front just before the braking zone in the hope that both Red Bulls weer closing on the outside so Bottas and Lando could slide into the Red Bulls then that is more that worthy of a movie stunt.
It must be impossible to set that all up between different teams, who is Horner trying to kid?

That said crashes that are not your fault won't half hurt the budget cap spending. Red Bull must have a bill of something like £2 to 3 million to fix all the damage from the last 2 races plus extra pu penalties to come.

I wonder if FIA will look at somehow compensating teams who receive damage where they are not to blame or maybe increase that budget cap by the repair costs. Maybe charge the guilty parties team for the repairs?

The problem with Horner saying things like that is that it becomes real for some viewers. It's absurd to suggest that and the FIA should step in when ridiculous accusations are being banded about. They need a warning about this kind of stuff. It's getting stupid.

you can’t compensate teams when they are involved in racing incidents . where will it end . Merc would have to pay McLaren for the damage Bottas did to ~Norris , McLaren would have to pay RBR for the damage caused..etc etc ….

in fact I’m not sure when you can compensate a team ?

    Madness .

The powers that be will IMHO do nothing until someone gets hurt . It makes headlines . Like Senna Prost , Borg McEnroe , etc .

this lot are so beholden to the mighty Money / tv , it makes me sick and I was hoping for so much more .

This ALL goes back to RBR’S senior management and the poison they are spreading verbally .

I have all the respect in the world for all the others . DM must be loving this , there is no such thing as bad publicity……….

There's already an allowance in the budget cap for 5% discretionary spending, to be approved by the FIA. I think an argument that you should be allowed the extra spending because you've been taken out far more than normal would be accepted. That said, it's only really Merc, Ferrari, Red Bull and maybe Mclaren who trouble the spending cap. A crashy season for Mazepin (for example!) already means money has to be diverted from other areas to pay for repairs, whilst for Red Bull they just spend the extra.

I didn't know that one, nice, cheers.
So in reality Horner is whinging more than he should be, well that's just Red Bull for you. So if they go to the FIA they might get up to $7 million!!! I can't imagine that sum isn't within their finances so no real problem is there? Plus they will probably replace stuff with newer, better versions!!!

Once again Red Bull making mountain out of mole hills.....

I get them being pissed off. The start yesterday just totally destroyed their weekend. But that's just racing, crashes happen and sometimes you're on the wrong end of it. Bottas found himself in a rough spot and got caught out. The aftermath was unfortunate for a lot of people, just moreso for RBR. They can only take it on the chin and regroup.

Why is the summer break now???? Waaaaaah!!!
