I'm only up there for 3 days, so will probs just do some lake swimming, short hikes, cafe, obligatory toy shop.

If I was going for a bit longer, I'd be well up for leaving the girls to the shops for a day and taking myself off on a big old hike. I reckon there must be some great MTB trails up there too. Should be a decent reccy this trip. If it's any good I might have to plan for a longer trip another time.

If you want short hiking and cafe stop then the Great Orme in Llandudno is a great walk and the views are unbeatable if the weather is nice, with a cafe on the top of the Orme. Can catch a tram back down too if the little one is knackered. Was up there last week.

If you have a young one with you then the walk round Cwm Idwal is a nice gentle one. If you want to get a summit in thats not too hard try Moel Siabod - its a bit quieter and also has a nice lake on the way up.

If you fancy a combined swimming and downhill surfing experience try Marchlyn Mawr. Only place that can satisfy both. Start swimming at 650m and 75secs later you will be 500m lower in Llyn Peris. You need to time it during a spell when the National Grid reaches overload - Saturday tea time during a major sporting event is probably best.

Other thing the little un would enjoy is the train ride to the top of Snowden, as long as you dont mind the company of a load of Liverpool Chav’s taking a break from casing homes along the North Wales coast. You can then walk to the next peak over or walk back down if she is up to it. Its a long but gentle path back.

I looked into that train up to the summit of Snowdon, but they don't take dogs and we'll have the mutt with us. Will defo do that Cwm Idwal though, it looks lovely and lake swimming is on the agenda.

Your surf recommendation sounds dangerous, but I think there is a wave pool up there in Snowdonia somewhere ? Might try and squeeze that in if I've got time.

Mostly spent at home or in the garden which makes it even stranger how quickly the year has passed.

Just been told by my Mrs her parents have invented themselves along for the last few days of our holiday. I use the term loosely as nipping down to West Wales is not my idea of a holiday.

Which is exactly the reason I get the **** out of dodge for my holidays, so I don't see anyone I know. Let alone the ****ing in laws.

It's bad enough there being other British people around for **** sake.

Is it just round here or have beer prices shot up everywhere. Just been for a long hike, finished at a pub, I've not been to since pre covid, pint of Old Rosie there pre covid £3.40, today £4.60, no wonder the pubs are empty, most places have put a pint up by 50-80p.
