From the Daily Mirror 24.02.11 Sunderland boss Steve Bruce has committed himself to the club until 2014 by signing a new contract. The 50-year-old, who arrived at the Stadium of Light in the summer of 2009, has been in discussions with the Black Cats for some time and has now put pen to paper. Sunderland are currently seventh in the Barclays Premier League and bidding for a first top-10 finish in the top flight in a decade. Bruce said: "I'm delighted to have signed a new contract. It's a magnificent club from top to bottom with wonderful support and everything is in place here for a manager. "We have the makings of a fantastic young team. It's been a great challenge so far and one that my backroom team and I have relished, so we are looking forward to continuing with that over the next few years." Chairman Niall Quinn, who along with owner Ellis Short has provided Bruce with the financial backing to rebuild the squad, was delighted to have reached an agreement. He said: "It was hugely important to bring stability to this football club and I firmly believe that in Steve we have the man to do just that. "In only 18 months he has reshaped our squad beyond recognition, bringing in some fantastically talented players, many of whom are young and desperate to achieve and improve. "He embodies the ethos of team-work and the importance of camaraderie in creating a wonderful spirit of togetherness amongst the players and staff. As someone born and bred in the north east he fully understands the unique passion for football in this region. "He has already raised the aspirations of not only the players, but also the supporters, and instilled a belief in everyone that we can go on to achieve the sustained success that we all crave for this club." Anyone else notice that ever since we gave âfatso malatsoâ his new extended contract, he has completely ****ed the whole team up and results have plummeted as a consequence? He signed it back in February - we actually won 3 games in January prior to that contract extension then the results ever since have been truly disastrous. Its as if he just stopped giving a ****e after signing this contract which keeps him here until May 2014 (or more to the point, ensures he can fleece us for a **** load of cash if he is sacked) and has played some bizarre formations and teams since. We are currently 4th bottom, so if 7th place warrants an extension, does 4th bottom not warrant the boot? Personally, I think he is taking the friggin piss out of the club now and almost daring Short to sack him, which all concerned now recognise will cost the club some 6m quid or so. I find myself finding new and deeper ways to despise this fat twat on a daily basis now.
I'm sure at the time most of us thought it a strange decision as he had only just got settled in. We can now all see why he did it he knew he had run out of ideas so knew he was on borrowed time, more contract = more money for when the boot finally hits his arse. Bruce had the neck to call Gyan a money grabber what the difference in what he has done to what Gyan has done both for the money.
I have said this before. I am now 53..I have watched Sunderland since I was 5 years old. I have witnessed lots of relegation squads. I am now watching a relegation "team". Any manager with the smallest amount of tactical nous would get another 25/30% out of this squad..but whoever did take over would need all the time possible to achieve safety this season.....For god sake Ellis...get rid of this liability and get someone in who knows what he is doing NOW!!!!!!!!
The fact that what your saying is people's opinion, he will have known what has gone on everyday at the club with Gyan. Though I have got to say this theory does have substance to me.
according to the recent premier league rich list, Brucey already has 9m tucked away, so I don't thinking he's working his ticket to get short to sack him. I still think the biggest factor in our demise is the sale of judas (or the loss of his goals to be more accurate). Then again he had the whole summer to do something about that, and instead of getting, say, Shane Long he blows his budget on 2 strikers "for the future". Deluded or what ? Funny how quickly things change though. I remember people coming on this board in July saying we should sign jermaine defoe. The way things are now we couldn't sign daniel defoe.
Remember that too also remember me saying don't do it as we had Gyan who looked the better player, how wrong I was on that eh. Daniel Defoe has got a left foot though maybe the answer to our LW problem.
Why don't we pay him off with the £6m we got for the Gyan loan and bring Gyan back next summer to partner Bendtner? I think they'd do well together. With a different manager, I think Gyan would want to come back (he's never once had a wrong word for Sunderland) and with someone credible to play alongside, I think Bendy might just stay. So Al-Ain pay Bruce off. Sunderland get a manager, and we get a strike partnership that might just make us extremely happy ... sorted. Oooh, the irony.
