Decent thread… imagine if our turnover increased through better club management and added sponsorship….
@Albert's Chip Shop have you got a subscription to the athletic? If so can you screenshot the article?
Don't like their model. Don't like any model that doesn't try to equalise the leagues. They all come up with these complicated models to justify expenditure involving what each club generates through sponsorship, what each is already spending etc etc. Instead of all that bollocks, you just give every club the same budget for wages. You say it comes into force in 3 yrs and they have that long to sort their life out. You set caps on the transfer spend any club can make each season. You remove all financial rewards for winning or achieving a high league placing. You remove all external influence on the spend. Job done, sporting competition returns. Unless we are taken over of course, then I want all limits removed so we can buy everything. For a laugh.
So, much like La Liga it will be a 3 club league. Nah, no thanks. Look at the spending capable by City and Chelsea ffs. They'll dominate, more so than they do now.
If that image doesn’t prove the big six **** show isn’t in full flow I don’t know does. Look at the gap!
Take the average attendance of each club for the past 120 years, multiply it by a set number, there’s your spending cap. Pouchy is right there’s just no point to this bollocks. There needs to be a set limit for everyone in terms of squad size, spending, salary, number of loans permitted, where you can get kids from, etc. The whole thing needs balancing. None of this will happen.
Like you say balance will never happen. The only thing I think that would work is rather than the prize money be for position. But position is what sets your next season transfer max spend. So top - 150m 2nd - 120m 3rd - 100m 4th - 90m And so on and so forth. They don’t have to spend that of course. But that’s the maximum!
Nah, should be reversed like the US draft system, so if you finish bottom you can spend £150m, top can spend £20m. That’s balance. You’ve got to introduce something that is a leveller, not keep fuelling the wealthy.
Plus, the NFL take all clubs commercial revenue from merchandise etc, pool it and distribute it evenly between clubs. Ironically for the land of the free, its one of the most communist systems in sport, but it works.
Love it - let’s do that. It’d be ****ing hilarious, watching the big 6 put up for sale and devalued by billions overnight.
I totally agree - I guess the whole draft thing would never work, but you can guarantee every few years a new team will emerge as a challenger for the Superbowl under their system
The lovely graphic at the top there indicates why we're all so frustrated. The likes of Villa and Everton throw money at ****e and we survive on very little. Imagine what we could do with more flexibility.
