In my experience, it's not that difficult to stop. Staying stopped can be tricky. Fortunately, lots of help is available if you need it.
I've been almost teetotal since the start of the year. I had the odd glass with a meal in France over the past few weeks but I reckon my total intake for the year to date is no more than 30 units. It's been part of a diet in which I have now lost 11 kilos. The trouble with drinking is that it weakens your resolve not to gorge yourself.
Can you not just enjoy a pint with a meal when you're out or would that lead to self destruction? I don't really understand the all or nothing approach to alcoholism. My tolerance levels went up over the Euros where I would need at least 2 bottles of wine and graduated to spirits. My arsehol was exploding every morning and thought I had something wrong with my guts , turns out it was just the booze. One of my neighbours died recently after locking himself away during lockdowns and drinking himself to death leaving his young daughter behind . She was about 13 and the selfish prick ****ed her life up too .
