This is in no way being negative here, but I've seen alot of "these have signed this one and these have signed that one, we should be in for this one" etc and I agree. However, one thing that has and continues to be our unfortunate down fall is Geography. Waaaayyyyyy up here in the distance north.

I don't concur with this in the main, if Bent ,Malbranque, Gyan and the like are prepared to come here it's obviously been made their while. Also our Billionaire owner seems to have moved lock, stock and barrel here.

Being worth someones while at 40k per week is a lot different to 2k per week which is where we find ourselves now

Although we're Lge1 I can't see why we aren't a bigger pull than anyone else. Thats not being arrogant but the lure of playing in front if our crowds is surely a pull. Likewise if we were to get back in the Championship I'd say the same. Just to add, I'm not convinced we've been beaten to any of our targets by anyone.

Agree with what you're saying about playing in front of bigger crowds, also agree with i personally don't think that we've been beaten to any of our targets.

What is possibly a factor in league 1 is that the amount of salary on offer isn't tempting enough for players to uproot their families etc. It becomes easier in the Championship and the Prem due to the obscene amounts being offered, but even that isn't a guarantee. Take your red and white tinted specs off for a minute and ask yourself a simple question. If you were a young lad being offered 40k per week to play and live in Sunderland or 40k per week to play and live in London which would you choose, and as importantly which would you missus choose?

Exactly, "made worth their while", adding to the eventual downfall of short. I'm not saying all players are put off. What I'm saying is we have to work harder than most to get whom we want. Gardner "homesick", for example and that's here to Birmingham.
I remember Distin when he signed for Bournemouth when they go promoted, "I signed because I've heard great things about the club", when in reality, he can see his house in France on a clear day playing there. Where we are is a factor in alot of cases imo, paying over the top for Anton Ferdinand etc. like I say mate, just my opinion.

Some players are ignorant also, was it Kevin Phillips who said he didn’t even know Sunderland was on the coast

not sure mate. I know he was about to sign for Ipswich then they pulled out at the 11th hour. His agent had just so happened to have spoken to Reid a week or so before hand and Reid had mentioned Phillips to him so in essence we were his second choice. lol

Sunderland mate, you'll get much more for your money!

If this is the case so as LJ said, do the deal on our terms, wait until after the first game

Also noticed on the pic Doyle put up yesterday someone then commented ‘#announcejebbison’ which Jebbison then went and liked, could just be light hearted humour like, but it’s rotten light hearted humour if it is haha

As someone that gives most people the benefit of the doubt and has absolute faith in Sluper Klev, Prehab, Wheatsheaf etc I have no idea how that lad has managed to get a reputation as ITK. Most of what he says is either nonsense (Doyle isolating with Covid anyone?) but gets ignored or has been on Twitter half an hour before he posts it.
He also said the mags takeover was imminent. I think he may get a little info but is more wrong than right.

Granted McGeady needs a walking stick to get about but Evans is 30, Pritchard is 28 and O'Nien is 26. They aren't old for footballers. If you look at the players we've let go and the players we've brought in so far there's a clear shift towards a focus on youth.
We need to do more still. Pace is king in football and we still lack it in key areas. You've named 4 players over 25, theres Winchester, O'Brien, Flannagan, Burge to add to that too. Look at the England squad in the summer, lots of younger players, didn't harm them. If they're good enough they should play and we need a fresh way of playing to enthuse the crowd. Youth, enthusiasm and pace will go a long way to improving out position imo.

Middlesboro and Newcastle don't seem to have had any problems pulling talented players to the region and neither did we when we were an established premier league club.

It would be good to have all the player in before the season starts but the window doesn’t close till the end of August and even as the season gets underway a lot of clubs will still have a lot of business to be done . The recruitment appears to be more measured rather than our normal scatter gun approach , hopefully our patience is rewarded by waiting for the right players to become available which I am sure they will rather than panic as we have in the past and end up signing players that are no better than those we already have at the club . We have quite a number of talented players that I think could make the step up not necessarily in their normal positions to fill any voids ie Carl Winchester yesterday who certainly did not look out of place and also managed a goal . Give the recruitment team space to do their jobs !

So @Wheatsheaf said we were waiting for a club to sign a centre back before they would let us have one of ours.

So for completely baseless speculation, considering Palace are about to sign Andersen - could it be Sam Woods? Was on loan at Plymouth last season
