I have been encouraged to write a weekly Blog by Jub. Why anyone wants to listen to my boring ramblings I don't know, but if you're interested in reading them, then the first one is here and if you want you can subscribe to it. I'm going to leave this as a sticky until next weekend, I think anyone who will want to subscribe to my blog will do by then. http://www.not606.com/entry.php/59-The-3-Year-Plan-Can-Pulis-take-us-any-further
You're in a minority there. I'll stick the blog to the top of the board for a week to see if anyone apart from yourself is interested, I doubt it somehow. I hope that's ok with everyone, i've already been accused of being like a Dictator which is a reputation that I don't want to have.
When you say subscribe? do'es that mean we have to pay to view your ( as you say sgt ) boring ramblings? i'd rather you ramble on here
No you don't have to pay, that would be cruel. I'm a dictator not a blabbermouth It was to do with me saying on the Brighton match thread that anything to do with Brighton game should be put on there and any other separate thread would be deleted and someone took offence saying it was Dictatorlike
A Stokie said that! Just ignore them, your not 'dictator like' at all - your everything a mod should be, you and Potts are responsible, interesting and co-operative
Sgt Great idea, keep that sticky on the thread too mate! I will, if I think I have anything to add of course contrbute from time to time. You are not a dictator Sgt, just a passionate, loyal Stoke fan. Like the rest of us here on not606 WE ALL want success for Stoke and, we ALL have our oppinions. WE should ALL of us respect each others views, if we agree or otherwise. Life would be so boring if we all agreed on everything Sgt, KTF and keep on posting.
Peadar That's ONE picture that just scared the **** out of me mate. Spitting image, no bull of my Great Grandfather
Then your Great Grandfather had a fine moustache then. The only thing decent about Stalin was his moustache, it's a proper man's moustache that is
Sgt What's most interesting is that, he used to play for the Mighty Potters. But they were not as mighty back then. He went to play for Glentoran which is the link with Peadar re Ireland. My nan was born there so, it's quite a while back. I think around early 1900s he came back to Stoke and was Goalkeeper for a short while then, was first team coach. His name, Benton John Dutton. If youre interested, look him up on the Stoke City player's list. I have a book with his photo in there too! BEST of all is that my fav player ever for Stoke, Terry Conroy also played for Glentoran and, he signed my G Grandfathers photo for me, good or what. "Priceless piece of memorabillia for me Sgt"
http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Jack_Benton please log in to view this image Football career Benton represented the Irish League on three occasions while he was a Glentoran player. He then travelled to South Africa where he assisted Transvaal Police, on his return to England he joined Stoke. Benton made his League debut against Sheffield Wednesday. When Leigh Richmond Roose joined the club in 1905, Benton re-joined Glentoran. He came back to Stoke in 1908 and played five more times before retiring in 1910 through injury. Benton remained with Stoke and became club trainer up until 1918. Army career From 1893 to 1904 Benton was enlisted in the army in the 4th Battalion North Staffordshire Regiment. He served as a corporal in Belfast (Northern Ireland) and in the South Africa in the Boer War. He was discharged in 1904 having been promoted to the rank of Sergeant of Police. His parents were Joseph Benton (1843–1920, a cooper by trade) and Sarah Ann Dutton (1853–1922), both of Staffordshire.
It sure is Miss Jub. I am so proud of him too! Thanks for looking it up saved me doing it. I have that photo and another with his long shorts i.e. Stoke top on also. That's the one that T. Conroy signed for me.
Sgt Thanks for finding it mate, It's actually listed in the A to Z of Stoke City F.C. And, Miss Jub sure I am. And seen as it's now Valentine's Day, just for you. Here's not one But two!
