Looking forward to my first Hull City match tomorrow, and first visit to the MKM (though I still think of it as the KCOM) Stadium. I am originally from Bury and I was a Bury season ticket holder for years. In 2017 I moved over to Yorkshire and was travelling back for Bury matches on a weekend , but for obvious reasons I won't be doing that any more.

From when Bury were expelled from the FL to the Euros, I had very little interest in football, probably also in part to do with Covid meaning no fans at games, but I thoroughly enjoyed the Euros and it has made me realise how much I miss going to matches. I did consider supporting the AFC efforts in Bury, but that just feels like a new club to me.
So I thought why not go to watch a team over here?

I live near Selby, so my choices were Selby, Leeds, Doncaster or Hull.

So... for better or worse, I've decided to go with Hull - it's easy to get to on the train from Selby, which means I can have a few pints before the match and its not too much hassle getting home. Decent stadium and reasonable ticket prices - I may go for the flexi ticket option for this season.

It will be weird following a new club but I'm sure after a few matches I will start to develop an affiliation.
I don't know the city of Hull at all so If there's any tips for decent pubs, places to avoid etc please let me know.

So, what do you think - should I have picked one of the other 3 clubs or is this the start of something special?

Oh and thoughts are welcome about if you're allowed to adopt a club on the other side of the country if your club goes bust!

Great choice. It'll be the start of something special (hope you haven't got any health problems that can be exacerbated by watching 'your' football team ).

You knew we would say that though.

I'll leave the pub recommendations to others as we travel up from Leicester so just use the ones nearest the ground.

    Welcome <cheers>

If you're training it, chippy down Londesbrough St on way to MKM stadium is a must.

De-skinned, de-boned haddock , no frills, served by unsmiling people who just get on with their job with no **** chat.

    Scraps optional.

You’ll live the dream & also despair at the performance, but overall it’ll be a rollercoaster of emotions after every game.

    Welcome aboard
I’ve no idea what it feels like to have your club go out of existence (although I do know what it feels like when it might!)
Perfectly reasonable to decide to go to another clubs games I think. You might not feel like a fan at first, or even ever, you might just feel like you’re at least watching live football again, but hopefully that’s a good thing.
As far as pubs I suppose it depends what you like and how long you’re going to be in town beforehand? As has been said the chippy down Londesborough St seems popular, and Clarendon down there is a great pub IMHO. (seriously good old school bar staff) and they are on the route from train station to the ground (basically walk through St Stephen’s shopping centre and out the other side and you’re heading towards them)
If you’re after real ale then old town is nice round Lion and Key but you’d be heading in one direction to go back again, similar with anything near Humber St.
If you headed down Spring Bank way then Pearson’s and pubs down Princes Ave are good too.
I guess you might have to just try and few if you come regularly and see what you like.

    Safe travels

Hull is a genuinely welcoming place I think, and I hope you agree after trying it out.

So just to update since I posted this...
Great day out for the friendly, easy to get to the ground, had a natter with a few fans - you're a friendly bunch on the whole and it was brilliant to be back watching football.
So I took a leap of faith and signed up for a season ticket (membership???... Anyway)

I was really looking forward to the game on Saturday and tonight I'VE GONE AND TESTED POSITIVE FOR COVID!!!!!

Off to have a PCR done in the morning, but do feel a bit lousy so do expect that I have it.

So my question is, where do I stand with not being able to go to the match due to self isolation, in regards to the money paid for the ticket?

    Any advice appreciated :-(

    Thanks.

Welcome! And as a supporter seeing this club go bust more than twice but luckily avoid liquidation also more than twice I can certainly empathise.

You know you're hooked when you do the mawl and the oppo don't see the irony....

    Thats how it works.

Do they know what Scraps are in Bury?

Thought it was all tripe n onions, pigs blood n pearl barley with the odd Eccles cake thrown in?

Which is probably more nutritional then a chip butty, bag of Scraps, chip spice, a bottle of Ketchup with and a patty on the sard...

Answer 1 - not in the ground

Answer 2 - you're a member - you don't have a ticket for a particular match but being a member gives you access to all the league games - if you miss one there's no refund - it works out very cheap if you attend all / most of the games as match day tickets are quite expensive in comparison - so unfortunately you have to bite the bullet in the circumstances although you could try and call the club, explain situation and ask them to start your membership from September - they might listen

Anyway, hope you're ok and welcome aboard the good ship Hull City

If your coming on train via Goole look out for a load of lads getting on there, fondly known as The Goolies. If you stick with them you will have a day to remember. Pubs ? Ebeneezors just around the corner from Paragon Station, old town 10 minute walk but well worth it. Then bus to the stadium about 2.30. You have made a good choice.

Cave St used to be excellent, it went down hill about ten years ago, and seems to live on its reputation from past glory days.

Oh here we go, its Fish & Chips again :cheesy:

There was an article in the HDM the other day on the subject. Again.

Went in there with my lad on the way to City years ago following someone on here eulogising about it. Didn't say anything about what I thought so as to not influence him and waited for him to say something about it. What a load of crap he said half way through as he asked where a bin was to dump the rest in. The remains of mine followed.
