Looking at our pre-season games Winks does offer something to the team, because our midfield is pinging around a lot of short, quick passes and he's been doing that pretty well, and more than that he's actually tried pinging some balls from deep like he used to when he was breaking into the team

Obviously this is in pre-season games against lower league opposition, so who can tell if the second he plays the in the Premier League he reverts to percentage plays and nothing else, but it does have to be said that I can't see Sissoko reliably pinging the ball about

Definitely not. He's behind Dier, Sissoko, Aurier and Sanchez in the queue, if only because he happens to be HG.

Winks can be a tidy little player in the right system and under the right coach, he has previously had some impressive performances, but has never nailed down a starting place. I suppose it depends what Nuno sees in him, whether he stays or goes. If a good offer came in though, I think I would take it, he is likely only ever going to be a squad player, but he should never be let go ahead of Sissoko.

Sissoko was arguably our player of the season in the 18/19 season, even won our legends POTY award that year. Winks has never even been anywhere near that conversation.

Means nothing though, they’re both utterly horrendous footballers and the only reason Winks has a bit more love is because he’s from the academy.

Sooner the both go the better and personally I don’t care the order.

It was undoubtedly the undoing of Poch's group. Allowing Dembele/Wanyama to become Sissoko/Winks in the space of 2 years is the sort of stuff they debate at war crimes tribunals.

Does sound like the next week or so things are gonna happen (finally!).

I think Ally Gold said it will too but with the rumours of Gil-Lamela being close to done, Gollini practically signed and now news of Romero agreeing personal terms with the fee with Atalanta needs sorting, we seem to be making progress with some stuff. Not forgetting Tomiyasu too, which constantly sounds close to being done.

If Everton can indeed tie up Winks that'll be great. Apparently Hart's been told he has no future by Nuno (at best he'll be 3rd choice once Gollini is announced) and then it'll be about trying to boot the likes of Aurier, Sissoko, Dier and co.

    No pressure, Fab...

This is the bit that really annoys me (with all clubs not just your's <laugh>)
What is the point of agreeing personal terms with a player if you have no agreement with the selling club over the price?
Stupid from both side's club wise, why give permission to talk to a player if you don't know what you were going to get offered for him and why offer a player a contract if you are not sure you can afford him.
Just ends up with two disappointed clubs and a very unsettled player.

The reverse is also true, though.
What's the point in agreeing a transfer with a club if the player's not interested?

Then neither club has an unsettled player.
Agreeing a fee is not the same as agreeing a transfer, as you have pointed out, the player has to agree the move but at least if both clubs are in agreement about a fee then the players has a choice for his future.

I imagine the opposite is also true though. If you talk to the player and establish a chemistry, chances are you'll pay closer to the stated selling price, no? Especially if the player is keen. I also imagine helps that they actually want to sell the player though.

This as all about agents, players appear to give their representatives carte blanche to negotiate on their behalf I am sure it annoys many fans and club officials (and even some players) to see agents releasing this info (which is the only way it gets out) as it can give the impression that transfers are more advanced than they actually are.

I imagine it’s because there are very few players that are outright unbuyable at any cost. The list of players who literally wouldn’t be sold without them going on strike (and even then…) in world football can probably be counted on one hand. As nearly everyone has a price, the hardest part in any transfer where the player isn’t unhappy at their current club is convincing the player they want the move enough so that the club take notice. It seems underhand but I reckon that’s pretty much how it is.

Ultimately whether a player is one of those who is literally priceless, or whether there’s a price at which their club will sell, is probably pretty clear even before DoFs pick up the phone. Since, ultimately, players can refuse any deal they want by just not signing the contract, the most difficult part of the negotiation is getting the player and agent bought into the move. Once you’ve done that, it’s all about hard numbers with the club, which can be estimated to within an acceptable ballpark before you open negotiations.

So it’s not surprising to me that the deal is done with the player first then the selling club second most of the time, even if it does seem a bit underhand.

Praying we get this Romero signing over the line. He is top class.
Gill looks a superb talent and Gollini looks a good young keeper. Tomiyasu could be a very astute signing if we get him in too.
If we can get in Ings and offload Sissoko, Winks, Aurier, Sanchez that would be a wonderful transfer window .
We have some Incredible young talent in Skipp, Tanganga, Scarlett, devine and John.
    Exciting times.......

Some reports in Italy are saying we’ve now agreed a fee for Romero. €40m with bonuses worth between €5m-€10m.

    £160million is ridiculous money.

Would explain why Spurs can splash money on 4 new signings though

It’s ludicrous money for a ludicrous player. To sell him utterly changes the dimensions of our summer window, both in terms of our resources and the players we need to buy.

A couple of things worth noting as we go into the next few days, where we’ll see if this story has legs. Firstly, it’s the Sun. That’s it’s own disclaimer. Second, this is from their Showbiz editor. Apparently they overheard this at Kane’s brother’s wedding the other weekend, his brother also being his agent. So make of that what you will.

Nothing to do but wait and see, ultimately. Nuno won’t be in front of the cameras until next midweek, so no direct questions or comments likely before then, unless this is real.

I think and always have felt that Kane will be sold, he wants out and there’s little benefit in keeping an unhappy player regardless of how important or good he is.

Getting in a couple before he’s sold is sensible though. Even with the 4 (Gil, Gollini, Romero, Tomoyasu), that still leaves plenty of change from the Kane sale to get a striker.
