I'm pretty sure this hasn't already been done on our board, but here goes.

It appears foreign owners want to get rid of promotion to and relegation from the Premier League.

    From the BBC today:

What a load of bollocks. What would be the point in a league system if this were the case?

    Thoughts?

  2. They can go **** themselves. 3 ****test teams go down, 2 best teams and 1 team who fight till the end get promoted from the CC, and that should not end.

    Well that would be exciting...

About as exciting as having Titus Bramble struggling to get on top of you...

I can't see the Premier League really accepting this as the promotion and especially relegation are highly marketable aspects of the league in terms of generating interest around the world.

With the removal of relegation it would lower the quality of the product on offer as teams wouldn't battle it out in the last 5/6 games to avoid it and those are generally exciting games.

Last season the relegation standings changed numerous times in the last 20 minutes and it was truly exciting to see who was going to avoid the drop by the time the final whistle blew.

I think if it goes to a vote for this season Ellis Short will put two hands up.

No, cos it won't come into affect until next season, when they'll be needing promotion...

Can't see any milage in this. It says "several" foreign owners but I very much doubt it's any more than 1 or 2.

Probably Liverpool's idea....their yanks are trying to turn the premiership into the NFL!

Last week tv rights, this week scrap relegation...next week automatic champions league spot due to their history..

Doesn't matter how many owners want it - the FA have a veto on changes to the competition rules.
Total non-story and a poor effort from Bevan and all the journos who have failed to do any basic research.

There would be no incentive not to finish bottom other than a financial one. I think pride would go out the window if this became reality. There would be no incentive for Championship teams to do well, as they'd know they weren't going anywhere.

Thankfully it'll never happen, but if it did, I'd probably give up on football.

Never ever ever ever ever ever ever ever gonna happen.

If foreign billionaires want to buy clubs as playthings, they have to accept the risks. I understand the logic, if teams were guaranteed top flight football year in, year out, investors would be much more keen to pump money into smaller top flight clubs. As it stands, with the risk of relgation it's not always worth the gamble.

    Tough nuts!

Football is all about the pyramid, that in theory if your pub team gets their act together, there is no barrier stopping them playing Man Utd and Arsenal some day. In theory of course. Close off promotion and relegation and it all becomes pointless. Why leave it at closing off the top 20? Why not the Top4? Or even better, let's just give Man Utd the champions trophy every year and pay for the players to have nice, 12 month holidays every year?

Not happening and if this isn't a made up story or a misquote then shame on the little crybabies who brought it up. If you're **** on the pitch, you're going down. End of.

Could possibly ruin the league and their own money/stake in the clubs as although they can't get relegated the value of the premier league would go down..T.V rights and sponsors are huge income for clubs..

Also cant see the top 10 clubs wanting, someone like Abramovich wont care!

Is no one willing to take OT to task over this incredibly bad joke?

On the subject though, this and the suggestion about TV deals just show we now have people involved with football who care little about the game itself, and only about the money. We sold out though and these kinds of things are part of the deal you make with the devil.
