We've got to play better than this in the second half...

I was at the game as well, sat in the home fans section just below the Spurs fans as I bought the ticket from the box office. The atmosphere was brilliant, first time for a long time that I've been to St James' and it didn't disappoint. The fans around us were all right as well, we didn't wear colours but it was fairly obvious that the 3 or 4 of us in our group were Spurs fans. Most were happy to just give and take a bit of banter as we didn't go out to piss people off or do anything unreasonable

You were AT HOME! You had to try and equalise. You have a magnificent ground and magnificent fans, but you were playing catch-up from the moment we scored. Before then, a point would have done you. What I am trying to say is that if you had applied pressure, early doors, of the type you did at the end, I don't think we could have lived with it; Maybe at WHL, but at SJP? If your mob back themselves, at least a Europa place is there for the taking.

    Home Advantage
In team sports, the term home advantage (also called home field/court/diamond/ice advantage) describes the advantage–usually a psychological advantage–that the home team is said to have over the visiting team as a result of playing in familiar facilities and in front of supportive fans. The term is also widely used in "best-of" playoff formats (e.g., best-of-seven) as being given to the team that is scheduled to play one more game at home than their opponent if all necessary games are played. Yes, it looks like Pardew has finally got something right. You are a much improved team. We played badly today, you must remember that - Bale, in particular, looked sluggish, and off the pace, all afternoon. Your BIG test is coming soon - 2 games in a row - against Man City & Utd (both away) and followed by Chavski. If you can get through those with anything, the rest of us might start to believe.

Bale never got going yesterday, I was surprised by your shape, usually you play with real width, but yesterday Walker was the only player causing us problems down your right. Ade and Defoe looked quality though, VDV is kinda stroppy isn't it? He's a very good player but he's not the best player in the world, and sometimes it looks like he thinks he is.

I thought we played better football on the day as a whole, but Ade and co had more classy moments. I don't see what anyone could do about Defoes goal, that's how good it was. Tiote bossed everyone in the middle though, even sky gave him a 9.

After international week you often get tired performances, and i think that is what we saw in part. You have won 5 on the bounce so are the in form team in the league with city. So I won't complain about just getting a point. We could have won, but equally we could have gone down 0-2.

Only concern for you Spuds must now be your defence. Who's going to play in there?

    We're not Spuds, we're Spurs.

We do have defensive problems now for sure, we have to hope Corluka is fit for Thursday and Dawson is back soon. But, it's a difficult situation. VDV is stroppy, but I like that in his play, we tend to be a 'nice' team to play, so we need a bit of edge from a couple of our players.

Because a lot of Newcastle fans feel as though he jumped ship after we got relegated, but for me he did a good job for us and was probably our best player. Though personally I don't agree with the Newcastle fans who were booing Bassong. Seems to have gone backwards for you guys on what I saw yesterday.

He had a very good season when we finished 4th, but he didn't play much last season and I think he's a bit disillusioned.
Looks like he'll get a chance to play a lot now though, with our defensive injuries.

We're not Spuds, and you're obviously the type of WUM who calls us that deliberately to debase and demean our great name.

The other guy I think had no malice in his comment, so I took no offence just indicated it's not a nice name to call us.

You clearly are aware of the derogatory nature of the name, so presumably use it to annoy us. Incidentally aren't 'maris' pipers potatoes?

    EDIT

I see from your profile you're a West ham fan, that explains so much as to why you are on here Wumming people. We have dominated your two bob little outfit for over 100 years now, you have the most bitter and deluded fanbase in England, so there's no surprise in your silly little comment <ok>

How does it feel to know that a Victorian amateur team, The Wanderers, have still won more major trophies than you, and their last trophy was in 1878 <laugh> How embarrassing for a club that pretends to be a 'big club' but is full of hot air and burst bubbles <ok>

As someone else has already said, which teams ever do that for 90 minutes? Every team MUST settle into the game and feel the opposition out.

Well don't tar us all with the same brush then, unless you enjoy all this immature tit-for-tat?

And I'd be happy to watch performances like that, because whilst it led us to a comfortable draw against a potential top 4 team, similar performances would give us 3 points against an awful lot of the teams below. Spurs held their own with the sheer quality they have, but would Wigan, Norwich, Swansea, West Brom, Wolves, QPR and co be able to do that as well at SJP? We'll have to wait and see.

No one is guessing anything. I'm just saying that the draw, on this occasion, was down to a penalty, so the 'gulf in class' (if there is one) obviously isn't as large as some people think. Both teams played well and we matched Spurs for a draw. On another day, Spurs might have won, but on another day, NUFC might have won. It was a close game. If we matched up to a potential top 4 side on the day then hey, I'm happy.

Uhh, isn't that footballing strategy 101? To win a game, you nullify the opposition whilst attacking to score goals. They score fewer than you as a result and voila, you win.

The only team I can think of who just full-on attacked without attempting to nullify the oppositions play was Blackpool, and that didn't end too well, did it?

Newcastle were rarely ever sat back though, which I highly enjoyed. In the last 10 mins we were piling on the pressure in search of a win. The fact that our first two late subs were Ameobi and Ben Arfa (two attackers) just shows that we weren't sitting back for anything.

  12. I can't believe a Spanner had the nerve to enter into this debate <doh>

But far from being annoyed, it actually made me laugh! Then again, I do pity them, what with having a porno-pearly king for an owner.

    It is true, though.
Wanderers FC have won 5 major trophies, whereas West Ham have only won 4.

That was one of my old West Ham damning facts from 606.
One of the others was that the last West Ham captain to life a major trophy is older than Harry Redknapp.

I thought West Ham would of had more accolades than that, I'm sure they produced so many of the England '66 team. Trevor Brookins usually raves about how important WHUFC is, maybe he just chats nonsense <laugh>

Most Spammer fans have enough common sense to keep there heads down after being relegated (yet again!). This one's obviously not too bright.

Mind you to be fair it is difficult to get in front of defenders like King, Dawson, Gallas and Kaboul who surprised me yesterday with how good he was.

You would have thought so wouldn't you MW, the way those Hammers go on bigging themselves up without any justification whatsoever.

Here's the relevant trophy table, you'll see West Ham tucked in at 22nd place, 4 places behind The Wanderers <laugh>

    http://www.krysstal.com/trophies.html

With regard to the all-time top flight points table, they're in 20th place, just behind the mighty Boro (no disrespect to Boro fans, at least they've won a major trophy more recently than the Hammers, 31 years and counting <ok>

  20. I've always considered Kaboul to be extremely underrated.
