Clubs have ways of moving money about and spreading costs and such, so it's not just a case of coughing up the readies every time a transfer is made.
You're right but we also got Keita, Fab and Shaqiri at the same time for approximately another £100m. I agree with you that we do sell to buy but FSG have diverted from this stance at least once before. Maybe they will do it again this window. They need to at least try and get the fans back onside after the Super League fiasco. We sold Coutinho and bought Alison and VVD with it
We did get Alisson, Keita and Fabinho in one window without any big sales.

............People make too much of amortisation imo as it is just an accounting practice to show players value in accounts which is also used in FFP rules .Where’s @Tobes when you need him?
for the last time, player acquisitions and player sales are accounted for differently. Purchases are depreciated over the duration of their contract, possibly longer. So a £35m purchases costs us £7m a year on our P&L. Sales go straight into our P&L.
so if we sell, £60m of players for cash, it does not mean we can or cannot afford £60m of players to buy. Much would depend on other variables including when we’ve completed a contract and the asset is payed up or if we’ve shifted on big earners….as well as growth/decline in revenue.
