It's really not. It's crazy how partisan the fan base of F1 has become. It's poisonous in spots, and Westy's law is in play on just about any article... Including those showing Vettel doing cleanup.

Horner whipping up the mob yesterday hasn't helped matters either. Bloody irresponsible imo.

I've managed to resist responding to all but 1 social media post which is someone calling out the Merc F1 Twitter account for posting pictures of their team back at the factory with the teal shirts and trophies. She felt the need to call them disgraceful.

I don't even get that as Max only went to hospital for checks not as anything was actually wrong, also he is perfectly fine so why shouldn't a team who have worked their butts off celebrate a win at their home GP?

They make it out like Max is some innocent casualty in a war he had no part making and is sat in hospital on death's door. Obviously had Max been injured I'm almost certain celebrations would have been kept minimal to none but he isn't so why should they not celebrate? Maybe I'm wrong for thinking that, I don't know but I just can't see their pov on this one. I really do try to be impartial too, admittedly I don't always succeed but I try my damn hardest and for the most part like to think I am.

Ultimately, when someone destroys your race through an error and it's kind of a tap on the hand really - they're allowed to come back and still finish ahead of that person he took out - it doesn't weigh up

Max is partially to blame though. He shot him self in the foot and ended his own race. They both gambled and unfortunately Max came off worse. In racing incidents, that can happen. You can't defend as aggressively as Max did and not take part of the blame when you go flying off the track and into the wall.

That's an opinion, but not what the stewards thought as they punished Lewis for causing an accident.

Because the stewards are always right, eh?

Also you're repeating one of the things I mentioned the haters are doing. Using the Stewards verdict as fact Lewis was 100% to blame like we never disagree with the Stewards on a regular basis.

I tell you what I do think .

Go back to Arnoux Villeneuve 1979 . The modern stewards would **** them selves .

As I have said before , LET THEM RACE FFS !

They found him predominantly to blame, not entirely to blame. Which is why they both need a talking to before next race.

It would be easy to argue they gave him a light penalty because they thought it was both who were responsible. Many at the circuit who are racers themselves thought it was a racing incident.
In racing you you don't hit the indicator stork then move. You should use your mirror and eyes. Nor is there a circuit regulation that says you are not allowed to overtake on the inside at Copse. Canada, 2 years ago (or was it 3?), Vettel went off the track, came back on and tried to drive Lewis into the wall. Vettel got a 5 second penalty for that. Arguably a far worse infringement of any safety considerations. We all remember his petulant behaviour for being penalised. Yesterday, Lewis took it on the chin and got on with it.
However, if you are a fan of Max, you will defend his action, understandable. Just don't assume a penalty is apportioning the guilt to only one party. Max was already penalised.

If they thought Hamilton was wholly to blame he would have got a much more severe penalty IMO.

Ultimately both drivers could have prevented the contact. Do I think Hamilton should have received a penalty... probably not, simply because the stewards themselves were allowing this level or racing to persist throughout the weekend, so it's no surprise when it results in a coming together. It had been brewing.

But...going forward, I think they both need sticking in a room together, and remind them that stupidity will result in punishment. Not a fan of penalizing racing, but this could get ugly if they're not sorted out.

    Sorry .

Don’t agree with the last bit .

If it gets ugly then punish the guilty party , but let them race .

I also think the stewards should be the same people for EVERY race . To much jobs for the boys imho .

As I said previously look at Arnoux / G Villenuve 1979 . This current crop of stewards would crap themselves .

I think they need a talking to so that it doesn't result in somebody getting hurt. They can race both hard and fair.

I agree with this, Max was very lucky not to be hurt, we don't want drivers to be hurt because they are being stubborn and doing something silly. One way or another I think it needs to be stamped out now.

So what's the story with Red Bull potentially seeking harsher punishment for Hamilton? This genuine? Because if it is, I hope they fall flat on their face for the rest of the season. It's absolutely nonsense.

Live by the sword, die by the sword.

Sadly I don't think Max will get the word in his shell from the people he needs to hear it from. Hamilton may just be old enough and wise enough to keep a lid on it in future scraps, but the rhetoric, the outrage and emotion that poured out of Red Bull may just be fuel to the fire.

From what I have read, Brundle posted some comment that Red Bull believe Lewis inflicted a professional foul and they won't take it lying down. Lewis was just as much at risk, and I don't think Lewis would inflict that on himself. I don't think they are seeking a harsher penalty, they are simply implying the gloves are off for the rest of the season.
Sounds like (my guess) they will use Perez to wipe out Lewis to me, when they can. Brundle's view is Max has been aggressive this season and Lewis had had enough and didn't do as was expected and back off.
Red Bull are fuming because not only is their lead wiped out but Martin Brundle thinks the cost of the rebuild will be heavy and likely engine damage will see grid penalties going forward. All of which is true.
There is a but to this is my opinion, which is Max is still immature enough to not see that he put all this at risk with a wipe out strategy on Lewis. With more maturity Max could have given room and may still have won the GP or at least come second, avoided potential grid penalties in future, saved a rebuild cost.
Max will learn from this, he will be a better driver for it. He will think twice about consequences.

Fans of Red Bull will be gutted, I understand that, the team must have been feeling really good this season and this happens. Excluding Horner and Marko, I feel sorry for the team morale at Red Bull.
They still lead the drivers and constructors championship. In a blink of an eye it could have been Lewis who went off and Max now leading by 58 or even 59 points. How smug would Horner have been!!:emoticon-0119-puke:
Time for heads down and a clean fight to the end of the season.

I honestly worry that he'll just see red mist and look for revenge. I honestly don't believe he will take a step back and look at the bigger picture. In his head Lewis is 100% wrong for not getting out of his way and RBR just enforce that narrative.

If Lewis is done backing down I can almost guarantee there will be more collisions to come unfortunately. :(
