I just noticed what a goal-fest some of the League One strikers are having this season: Gary Madine(Wendies) - 11 goals in 13 games. Jordan Rhodes(Uddersfield) - 7 goals in 9 games. Neil Mellor(PNE) - 7 goals in 11 games. Bradley Wright Phillips(Charlton) - 7 goals in 12 games. Leon Clarke(Chesterfield) - 6 goals in 7 games. There's about another 8 strikers who are running at roughly a goal every other game. With the top two being only 21, I suspect there might be a fair bit of interest in them in January, if we don't get Waggy's loan extended, we could do far worse.
If I remember rightly there used to be a poster who lived somewhere near Carlisle and had seen Madine regularly . Again , if my memory serves me well , he said he was a goal machine who definitely had the potential but was a bit of a handful . Court cases for GBH and the like . Looks to be living up to his reputation on the pitch anyway .
Agree ,the odd discretion can be ignored if the goals are going in . Saying that grooming kids on the internet( lad at either Hearts or Hibs ) or getting banged up for sexual assault ( can't think who for that one ) is a step to far in IMO . The grooming one in particular - obviously .
Madine was back in court again this year, having managed to do only 6 1/2 hours of his 250 hour community service order. He's not been in any bother in Sheffield as far as know, but he wouldn't come cheap, the Wendies paid £800k for him in January(I'm not sure Nige would be too impressed with his off-field antics, so it's probably unlikely).
No reason why not, there's plenty of players who've made the step up, just because it didn't quite pan out with Mclean, I don't see that it's going to put him off, particularly with young players.
That's what I was thinking . Hindsight again but we look to have possibly missed out again . Saying that NP probably wouldn't have gone for him due to his off field aggro . Nice contradiction in the space of two sentences there. Should have gone all out for Austin .
Madine - height 6' 3" age 21 goals 11 Rhodes - height 6' 1" age 21 goals 7 Would be happy with either of them, but (on the limited info I have) I think I would go for Madine as we need a tall striker and he is knocking goals in for fun.
We should have snapped Madine up in the Summer. It was obvious he had what it takes. You can double his price now and I doubt he would leave Wednesday anyway. Waghorn will be targetted because he is another of Nige's lads, but for me he still has everything to prove. They'll want £2m for him anyhow because of his continued U-21 value.
All three would command considerable seven figure fee's now, it's just a question of who would offer the best value. The Wendies will not be keen to see Madine leave, he's going to be instrumental in their campaign this season, so I doubt they'd even entertain an offer of double what they paid. The same is true of Rhodes and the Udders, who reportedly turned down a £1m bid from Millwall who wanted him as a direct replacement for Morison. I doubt we'll have to pay more than £1.5m for Waggy, so he might work out to be the cheapest of the three.
I wonder if he's related to Thelma Madine from Big Fat Gypsy Wedding ? It's a fairly unusual surname . For the record I don't watch it , bit like X factor .
I would be over the moon if Waggy became our player, I think he is very hungry to succeed and NP can be the man who gives him his chance
Do you reckon the loan arrangement might've contained an 'option to buy' - even if carrying conditions?
Cheapest maybe, but will that also be best value? What if he has only scored another couple of goals between now and Jan? It's also the question of the TYPE of player. Rhodes and Madine are EXACTLY what we need. Old Foghorn is Matty's long lost twin!!
I could see Nige loaning a prem youngster and then making the move permanent at the end of the season, though maybe he'll chance it with a permanent straight away. We shall see.
I doubt it, it's normally announced as a loan with a view to a permanent, if that option is already in place. I think we might well have done a permanent deal in the first place, had we managed to agree terms with Millwall for Simpson, but that deal is looking more and more unlikely as he's not scored in five and was dropped to the bench for their game on Saturday. The only reason I think he might be the cheapest option of the three, is that I don't think Leicester want him, whereas the other two clubs are desperate to keep their men.
There's a reasonable chance that Leicester might decide we're doing too well and recall Waggy, then we'll be forced to look at other options anyway.
