I doubt many crimes are committed against people the criminal likes, so that's one **** of a broad church, depending how they define 'hate'. Would it be a defence say you don't hate them, you just don't like them very much?

 

In total with the rates handout and the compo based on the previous years declared earnings it was in the region of £50k. He may have taken a government loan. These have to be repaid, although how many will be is in doubt. The grants ( clue is in the name) made to people who pay Non Domestic Rates, as well as those monies paid to the self employed with declared profits of <£50k in lieu of lost earnings don't have to be repaid.

For example, my brother is a dentist in Chelsea and he got nothing because he earned more than £50k a year. My mate in my home town who sells the odd necklace etc is being handed out money all the time and he is loving it. Without sounding derogatory, you are a £17.5k guy like oor Trev?

Fair play, nobody will knock back free money. Ultimately everybody will pay for it though, through a rise in taxes, but fair play to the government for handing out money, much in the same way they do for benefits.

A bit more complicated because the last three years were averaged. I began winding down in 2017/18. The average was around £33k. Crucially though I kept the premises and therefore qualified for the rate grants.
