Yeah hes played a few, he's just very hit and miss though apparently. Most lads ive spoke to havent got a great deal to say positive or negative about him. The only concern is hes pretty suspect at defending, we should be used of that by now though with the Left backs weve had.
I’ve defended a series of defensively shaky fullbacks like Hume and PVA but I’m bloody desperate for a good old Hardyman or even better Scott.
This is a great point. The world seems to have moved on from those that can defend first. Whenever I am asked to coach young lads defensively it is never about tackling techniques or using the physicality. It is about interception and managing the space. Full backs of years gone by whose first task was to smash the winger wont be a thing anymore because we dont teach them that I am afraid. We wont see another Stuart Pearce I am afraid who could do it all.
PVA continues to play Premiership football.. I do agree that full backs today seem less defensive oriented and more like wingers, especially with 3 CBs.
Whilst he’s clearly a decent player I wouldn’t want him as anything more than a bit part player now. He could do a job like SKP did at Leicester towards the end of his career but his wages would be huge for this level and he’s at least as likely to be finished. Not the way forward in my opinion.
Would be nice to sign players on their way up rather that approaching the end of their careers or on way down. There's plenty of talent out there. Power and pace are attributes which can be had. However these usually cost and at this point everything points to us not spending on fees at all. Pace may need to cone from youngsters already here. Just hope lj plays them thus season.
