I do occasionally venture onto the Garuniad website as I feel that it is fair to see what the crazed lefties are writing and our favourite Owen Jones is usually good for a laugh.

The reporting in the Garuniad on deaths in Qatar is not new. The story was first run in 2019. It is not unlikely that the statistics in the Garuniad are an understatement. Their report only uses sources from the Asian sub-continent but there are 2 million migrant workers in Qatar and the numbers from sub-Saharan Africa are not reported.

This report from Amnesty International “REALITY CHECK 2020: COUNTDOWN TO THE 2022 WORLD CUP” reads like Qatari working conditions are not much better than slavery, with subsistence pay and no rights.

 

Agreed that the deaths will be an understatement. Even not including the sub-Saharans, there will be unregistered workers from Bangladesh etc.
