Breaking: England team's Downing St reception was 'cancelled' because players refused to meet Johnson https://t.co/JQP8kwnc8w?amp=1 It is now emerging that the event was cancelled because England’s players refused to attend, in solidarity with black team-mates because Johnson and his front bench had fanned the flames of racism toward Marcus Rashford and other black players. Several had already spoken out on social media against racist incitement by Johnson, Patel and others and the Tories siding with those who booed players for ‘taking a knee’ before each kick-off. Has this happened before I wonder. For one of the current Tories to say they don't agree with 'gesture politics' ... ... ffs, all they do is gesture politics. "Quick Boris, put this England shirt on, you'll look great"

Like was discussed yesterday, if this is the stance they're taking they'll pull out of the Qatar world cup so they aren't seen as massive hypocrites who are making this political.
DOWNING Street has “shelved” plans to host England’s Euro 2020 stars at Number 10, it has been claimed. According to the Guardian, insiders say Boris Johnson’s administration binned the invitations to focus on the Prime Minister’s “levelling up” agenda instead. It comes after one of England’s players publicly rebuked Priti Patel for expressing solidarity with squad members who were racially abused following the team’s penalty shoot-out defeat to Italy. Tyrone Mings attacked the Home Secretary, who insisted previously that fans were entitled to boo players for taking the knee, for dismissing the anti-racism protest as “gesture politics”. Guardian reporter Aubrey Allegretti tweeted afterwards: “I’m told that plans to have the England team to Downing Street for a reception this week have been shelved, with attention turning instead to the PM’s levelling up speech in a few days.” Number 10 did not deny the report. A spokesman said: "We will be talking with the FA to identify a suitable way for the Prime Minister to thank the players and coaching staff for their efforts." Henderson looks finished at international level. I thought he was useless when he come on, he never got into the game, at all.
Hoping it's just rustiness but he certainly looked completely off the pace. Crazy to think his career might be winding down. I still think of him as the young lad putting that mental ball in to Gyan at Wigan.
They say kneeling isn't for BLM, it's just an anti-racism gesture... England captain Harry Kane says Premier League players should continue to take a knee before matches in support of the Black Lives Matter movement. I hope people understand that they aren't booing the players for taking a stance against racism. They're booing players who are acknowledging a racist organisation, an organisation that calls for the police to be defunded. An organisation that went around damaging our towns and cities, pulling down statues, damaging the Churchill statue and causing over 100 police officers to receive injuries.
The problem is that decent misguided people are trying to explain that there are actually two BLM organisations, that 'BLM' isn't political, that it's not just black lives but all lives, etc etc etc. That's fine but it's all very confused and unclear. What we all saw was a police officer kneeling on George Floyd's neck which triggered a huge Black Lives Matter surge and players kneeling on the pitch. No matter how much people explain the intricacies of what we're seeing now the majority will think that kneeling and BLM are inextricably linked.
Unfortunately mate I fear Southgate will remain in charge in 2022 and possibly beyond. We cannot afford to waste this generation of attacking talent by playing like we did at the Euros and previous World Cup. He’s too conservative and I doubt that will change. To be playing at home and only manage 34% possession and one shot on target in 2 hours was criminal. No other “major” footballing nation on earth would put up with that.
He's our second most successful manager, ever. He's brought these players on and put the team together who are that young we are still 3 to 4 years away from peaking. A world cup semi-final, nations league semi-final, Euro's final including breaking records on the way to that final. SOUTHGATE OUT!
Surely every player in the squad is a favourite or they wouldn't be there. Henderson has proved to be a valuable player for England.
The question is whether this is his high water mark, and whether we're going to waste what is the most talented squad in decades by having them play an outdated tactic that all the nations we're now planning to compete with have abandoned five or ten years ago for a more offensive approach. Even the Italians are on the front foot as default these days. If that doesn't tell you football is changing then nothing will.
