Depends how you define negotiations really. Enquiring about the price and availability of a player and at least seeing if there’s any wiggle room on the fee and wages required is sensible because it wouldn’t be good to spend time identifying a #1 target then finding there’s no way to afford him or convince the player to join the club. I expect this is as far as it goes for most of the 10, then there’ll be 2 or 3 that we go further with depending on the above factors and further scouting of the player.

I can agree with entering negotiations with ten CBs at the moment, which seems to be the case with Tomiyasu, Kounde, Lacroix, Skriniar and Milenkovic on the bubble at the moment, since if the plan is to play a back three this coming season we would need to sign two CBs

The obvious point, however, is the CBs we're linked with are not interchangeable. Kounde, Lacroix, Skriniar and Milenkovic can be said to be three CBs of the same type as all of them look like the sort of CB we need in the centre of a back three, but Tomiyasu clearly isn't as he's a right-sided Ben Davies so can play RB or RCB
In terms of how FootballDotLondon phrased it, Paratici gets to the point of negotiating with the player themselves rather than the club, which is the point where it looks like we'd risk pissing off a bunch of teams if we did that too often

The fact we're solely responsible for Benfica changing their stance on loans is the reason this has me more than a little wary because, while Juve had the cache to annoy clubs, we don't

    Matt Doherty on NES:

Makes it sound like he's going to push them. Good.

It has been noted that, in the training videos so far, Nuno Holy Ghost seems to be doing physical training that will push players' fitness, while the ubermensch's training sessions always seemed to be teqball and keepaway circles

Interesting, although if the answer is Ings, I will be more doubtful

Two up front with proper strikers? We'll need to sign about 3, then. Can't see it.
What would that mean for our vast supply of wingers? 4-4-2? 5-3-2 and they all go in the bin?

Surely that would just mean playing Son up top with Kane

Was thinking this. Most logically with formations it would be 352 or 4312 or 442 with a diamond. Son and Kane up top with someone in behind as a 10.

    Lloris
    Doherty CB Rodon Regulion
    Skipp
    Højbjerg Gio
    Tanguy
    Kane Son

It feels very narrow and we would be asking a lot of the fullbacks to provide width as well as the CBS and DM to hold the shape. I wonder if 352 is more likely in this circumstance.

    Lloris
    CB Rodon CB
    Doherty Skipp Højbjerg Regulion
    Gio
    Kane Son

That looks more balanced to me.

It’s going to be really interesting to watch the shape as preseason progresses, internationals come back, and try and work out what Nuno’s vision for the team is.

That 2nd team looks good as long as CB & CB are not Dier and Sanchez!!!

I am sure that at least one person who posts here will love the suggestion of the diamond :emoticon-0136-giggl

Yeah I think the diamond is extremely difficult to pull off unless you have an elite DM and elite CBs. Skipp/Højbjerg strike me as better in a double pivot and I doubt we’ll be singing Van Dijk, Dias and Varane to lead our defence so the diamond can’t be a serious option.

I hope Nuno plays an attacking 3 at the back system, which is obviously possible with the players we have, and I think suits the squad.

Yeah, and if Kane leaves, then it would be Vinicius, who Spurs bought for a considerable fee and has so far more than met expectations...or should you forget about that and just take another gamble on another striker, and repeat every year?

Or is it just that the writer really doesn't know anything about Spurs, or care, and is just trying to churn out click bait?

From what I understand about Portuguese style managers, they run a system dependent on having the right deep lying playmaker. I only know of two players who fit the bill, Moutinho (wanted by AVB and used by Nuno) and Jorginho (unavailable).

So I thought it was interesting to see Spurs linked to a young player of this type: https://tbrfootball.com/spurs-repor...lish-for-17m-fans-should-be-excited-tbr-view/

We didn’t activate the purchase clause for Vinny, and I think considering they wanted something like €40m for him, I understand it.

On Vitinha, I don’t really know anything about the player, but sounds like he could be an interesting player.

Why is there the assumption with us being linked with Ings meaning we'll play two up top, instead of Ings deciding he's just as likely to get an England cap sat on our bench as he is starting every game for Southampton (feel free to prove me wrong on that, Southgate...)?

The reason I ask is, after all the talk of Paratici wanting a manager who plays 3ATB, playing two up top means a 352 formation - and playing Kane & Ings up top means Sonny is on the bench, as there's no way he's playing LWB

I really should try harder to know what I'm talking about, if I'm going to be so critical of other people. Either that, or quit being so critical of other people...but that's not going to happen.

I had a hunch Vinicius would be a 15-20 goal scorer in the PL if he played every game. €40m does seem at least €10m too high...but that's disappointing...though not as disappointing as Spurs (perhaps) finding the money for a nearly past-it PL mid-table veteran, but not for a more talented and younger player, when they're in desperate need of a rebuild. Too much good news lately, I guess, there had to be a bad twist somewhere. Tbf, Ings would be a good reserve. But if Spurs really cash in on Kane, refuse to pay for VInicius, and then expect fans to cough up the same money to see Danny Ings...

In any case, it's good to see the return Spurs are getting on their deal making. They got someone who could have been a top striker, just maybe, for too little time and too few matches to do them any good. Benfica lost a player they really could have used last year, when they finished third. On the other hand, if Vinicius hadn't done well, that would have been, if possible, an even more complete waste of everyone's time.

So has Nuno persuaded Harry to stay?
That seems to be the consensus of opinion amongst those who know f*** all but have strong views.
