But you did mention a style of play and linked it with Parkinson - so who exactly is the football dummy?
Everyone who apparently has problems with England getting better and wants us to just keep on holding what we have - watch Gold Rush on the BBC. That's how you develop a group to win at the elite level. No stone left unturned, honest about performance to the point of brutality. No compromise. A win at all costs mentality. Runner up - who cares, it's a step on the road, how do we win a World Cup in eighteen months time? Not by sitting back, that's for bloody sure. Football is changing. Some South American team will run over us in Qatar if we're still playing like that.
Serious post guys! Has anyone seen football? He was meant to be home 24 hours ago. I'm worried sick!.

serious post Gill the Gits next performance will be from the stocks in Durham market square............
Righto then. I defer to your considerably greater experience of football tactics and punditry than those of Gary Lineker as I have been utterly defeated by your erudite discussion.
Decent summing up but out of curiosity which substitutions did work, I cant think of any, maybe Grealish , who everyone was shouting for, long before it dawned on GS , the rest were woeful. Mount was shocking from the off. loosing possetion time and again in that first period when we had Italy on the floor, Sako bless him, was equally as bad, and it affected the whole team carring those two, I can remember little from our main threats at the start, the two raiding full backs and Trippier after he came on. And taking of Rice, wtf I could go on but its bad for my blood pressure even now, I am on the fence about GS and am willing to give him one more shot, but I used to watch him managing at a lower levels and was less than impressed then, but listening to Sir Trevor praising GS you would think we did finish on a high.
said this the other night mate. After the dust has settled, in summary, no matter how good the Italians were, Southgates tactics after our goal and what we did and didn't do, the fact remains that it finished 1-1 and went to penalties, and they blew it. I have no doubt we can get better, move on, dust ourselves down etc etc, we were at home with a buzz and a feel good factor. The best chance since 1966 to win something of note and we blew it at that point because of footballers f,##king about before taking a penalty (not saka. It was literally the perfect setting and set up that if you could write the ideal script for a setting to win a tournament.
I thought Rice had a stormer in the final. More than held his own against Verratti and Jorginho. I thought we got worse when he went off for Henderson.
Fair point, probably none of them. Saka possibly like you say, he at least tried to go forward but Chielini throttled him to stop him. Grealish I didnt think impacted the game either, bit like I said with Henderson he never got the pace of it. Other 2 arent worth commenting on other than they were brought on to score a penalty and didnt. I tend to agree Southgate didnt get his subs right, which is something he has done well in the tournament. Leaving Mount on for so long when you have Sancho or Saka seemed to oddest of all to me. I will give him the world cup though. His record overall is better than most and we are now a tactically sound international team with very good players. Just a shame there are some other very good teams out there desperate to win too I suppose.
