I'm not sure I understand where you are coming from with this?

What would the Conservatives gain by increasing their already huge majority? They can pretty much do what they want now so I've no idea why you think they'd take the risk. Especially after what happened when May tried that one going head to head with Corbyn.

You answered your own question: an increased majority, and an extra couple of years in power

And don't forget, three years from now the public might have actually considered that the Tories have been an absolute ****ing disaster since last February, so riding a wave of nationalistic fervor to brazen a couple more years in power is the sort of thing that I would not put past them considering the amount of flag shagging they usually use

And that's something that May couldn't have used, as the best she could claim is "Hey, I triggered Article 50 without a plan, Rule Britannia!" which is hardly the same as cashing in on winning the Euros, and it also has to be said May called one because she was getting rattled by people calling her unelected

The Conservatives are our next government for the foreseeable, regardless. If I answered my own question then what I'm left with is it's utterly pointless for them to call an election to gain an extra couple years when they'll just see this term off and secure another 5 straight after. It would be an unnecessary risk.

Labour are dead and buried, at the moment. It's highly likely they'll never win a majority again and the only power they'll have will be shared power with whoever they jump into bed with.

I would be gobsmacked if there's an early election called.

If Labour are dead and buried, why would it be an unnecessary risk to call a snap election?

Look at Gordon Brown as the perfect example of dodging a risk and failing as a result: when he became PM he could've easily called a snap election and ridden the wave of Not Being Blair that may have seen his majority drop a little, but he would have got one. Instead he decided to play it safe and ride out the remainder of the term, only for the global banking crisis to hit the following year which led to Tories and their mates in the media to keep using the one-two punch of how Labour tanked the economy (which is a lie) and that Brown was an unelected PM (which was true, but Brown could have dodged it) which got us into the situation we're in now

On the other hand John Major took a risk when he became PM in spite polling behind Labour, and he won a majority (in no small part due tot he Murdoch press pumping out one hit piece against Kinnock after another for weeks) and, while the number of seats dropped a tad, he had five years in the bank that he wouldn't have if he sat on what he had

And let's not pretend that we haven't seen football tournaments used to ride a wave in an election, after all the 1970 election was slated for after the 1970 World Cup semis, and Harold Wilson was certainly banging the drum about England only winning a World Cup under a Labour government in the leadup to the election

    His Wiki entry currently reads:
Following this incident, Lawrence deleted his Twitter account, multiple venues cancelled his upcoming shows and publicly denounced his racist comments. As a result of this, he was also dropped by his agent. This was widely considered to be the first time he’d ever contributed any humour to society.

    How unfortunate.

Drunken rioting on the streets of London and Jan 6-like incursions to Wembley. Not a copper in sight.

But an artist replicating an XR demonstration image or a peaceful candlelight vigil to mourn the brutal murder of a woman at the hands of a serving police officer......

The lurch to the far right in our politics since that marginal Brexit referendum vote and the voting in of the Boris lead Tories is very scary.
When you’ve got people in places like Hartlepool, who haven’t got a pot to piss in, voting for the Tories there’s something very wrong. Why would you vote against your own self interest because you’re so keen not to be part of the EU?

They obviously don't think that they're voting against their own self interest. Why? That's debatable.

I wonder why people still want to celebrate the “Great” in Great Britain when they have never benefited from whatever that is.
We still have wealthy, titled families in our society because some king looked favourably on their ancestors in medieval times. Class, wealth and privilege are the preserve of the few. You’ve little or no chance in places like Hartlepool of making a better life for yourself; most won’t get a job that pays above the minimum wage.
They’re brainwashed into beating the drum for “Great” Britain.

    Funny that....

You probably will see this...but not the responses... Tory MP's joining the Fascist bandwagon to stifle moderate free speech. 'Footballer, know they place! How dare you offend the Master Race!'

The battle line for the moral centre of this country has been drawn. Ultimately, I believe that the majority of people in this country believe in fair play and will reject the dogma of the racists.

Stuff like this is starting to appear...

and good, decent people aren't having Priti Patel's bile and hatred. The British are tolerant, like Neville Chamberlain, maybe too tolerant but there is a point at which that changes and picking upon a bunch of kids that the nation took to their hearts, is well beyond that point. It's just a shame that we let things get so close to the edge before taking up arms.
