Way too many runs conceded in that middle session. Given that it's an out ground, with small looking boundaries, that is largely understandable with a middle order of Phillips, Higgins and Taylor. But we can't really afford another session like that. I'm not too confident about much play tomorrow, particularly given the expected rain overnight and the likelihood that an out ground probably doesn't have great drainage. And hence if we're conceding 300+ first innings, forcing a win could be very tough.
Either the drainage is better than you thought or Cheltenham avoided the worst of the rain. Either way, covers are off and we're starting on time.
Forecast is fine for the rest of the match, so looks like just the back end of yesterday will be lost. And that may well be made up today and tomorrow.
We need to capitalise on this with a solid opening partnership, plenty of time left just try and take the shine off the new ball.
It would seem that Somerset need another 3 bonus points to confirm Division 1 status, regardless of what Hampshire can do, or the result at the Oval. Currently closing in on the 3rd batting point, with 10 overs left, so a couple of bowling points will be enough. As long as the game isn't abandoned because of Covid, which has just happened in the Derbyshire v Essex game!
